Are we really after Viduka?

Are we really after Viduka?

'Reports' have steadily grown that Pompey are trying to sign Mark Viduka?

The name has been mentioned a few times but with Nikola Kalinic's move 'falling through' - although it is still thought it 'might' be rescued? - it is 'said' that we are going to offer the 33-year-old a 1-year contract.

I really am not sure on this one at all and in my thinking we will really struggle to get enough games from Viduka to warrant his signing - it is 'said' that with all the injuries he has had the Aussie was going to call it quits, but we might have persuaded him otherwise...

At his best I could see the merits - but I feel this best is very much gone, and if he was going to retire it seems to think he does too?

This ties in with the current poll from The Rabbi - should we sign him, so as well as voting why not leave some thoughts - are we really going to sign an out of shape, out of date and seriously fragile striker?

Also, whilst the official mention is still not there, it does now seem as though Richard Hughes has let 'the cat out of the bag' that Steve Finnan and Aaron Mokoena are Pompey players, as he said as much in a pfcTV interview yesterday...

Where do u hear bout the kalinic move may being rescued? Also i dont think Viduka would be good for us. But i might be wrong, we might sign him and he'll might be scoring them left, right and centre (not likely though).

just because the papers tell us this deal - kalinic - is dead it does not make it so, chances are we 'wont' be able to revive it but there are still plenty of reports and 'word on the street' thoughts, from home and abroad, that the deal might yet be saved...

i think it may be wires crossed because a few papers are saying kalinic is off to blackburn, i gotta admit if that is the case, its a bitter pill to swallow that sams gonna get our man. Viduka.....dunno, its someone i suppose, wouldnt have chose him myself but on a year contract? its a small risk.

If Kalinic ends up at Blackburn then it will signal the issues at Pompey and give an indication of the SAF money situation. If we cannot find £5m to buy the player outright then it's going to be a long season. Viduka, too old and injury prone...not worth it.

seen the blackburn reports on their vital site, i hope that doesnt pan out that way...as for viduka, not too keen on this one i must admit. on his day is still a quality player, but i do not think he will have that many 'days' - but you never know...
as for the SAF money situation, until he assumes complete control of the club we will not know and until this happens i will continue not to doubt what is happening until it happens, or not...

He is free. I presume we would be smart enough to get him on a pay to play contract, and when he is playing he WILL be better than Utaka or Nugent, at least for the first half/60 minutes. I'm all for it!!! (and for those that don't know, the weather outside in Perth, Western Australia is very lovely today!!! LOL)

Rug, I agree we can only judge SAF at the end of the season, by which time I hope it is not too late. As a businessman myself I do believe he must have a trick up his sleeve as there is no logic in buying a club to see it's overall value decrease over his time in charge. Time will tell.

Oh good. Just seen this article in the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/31/sulaiman-al-fahim-portsmouth-united-nations; Not to say that it is true, or even relevant, but does make me chuckle! Only at Pompey! Good to see the Finnan & Moekoena transfers on the OS now though.
