Hunt for Nugent and Ritchie staying?

Hunt for Nugent and Ritchie staying?

Stephen Hunt is a player that is being 'linked' with Pompey, and he is most certainly a player that I would be delighted to see us sign, but according to The Reading Chronicle this would come at a cost...

And I am not talking money costs, they 'report' that Reading want Dave Nugent in exchange for Hunt?

It is 'said' that Reading director of football Nick Hammond was at pre-season friendlies with Basingstoke and Eastleigh, leaving Basingstoke after Nugent went off - not that he would have been impressed that day! Against Eastleigh certainly more so as he scored 3 very well taken goals.

As Nugent has repeatedly said that he wants to prove himself I cannot see him accepting this move to be honest, and as much as I would like us to sign Hunt I would not want Nugent to go in order to sign him! Maybe I am foolish but I am sticking to the thoughts that I still feel he can come good, if used as an out and out striker.

At the moment it would appear that a swap deal would be our only option though? In which case I would forgo the Hunt signing...

The same report also says that Reading are 'interested' in Marc Wilson?

I seriously hope that we would not even consider letting him go as in my thinking, despite not actually knowing what his best position is, I really do think this guy has a future ahead of him - he certainly would have impressed Hammond against Basingstoke, as he was one of a very limited number that impressed that day.

Wilson also looks to have bulked up a bit since his injury setback, which again can only be a good thing for him - a quality footballer in the making for me that I would only let go out on a short-term loan...

And 'according' to The Nottingham Evening Post they feel that Matty Ritchie could be staying with Pompey?

An offer has been made, but according to their 'reports' the winger has flown out to Portugal with the rest of the Pompey squad - which, if true would seem to suggest that a move away from Pompey is not as 'imminent' as it was appearing?

Time will tell on this, and all issues above though...

Oh, and a little bit more on Nikola Kalinic - whilst it is 'thought' that the deal has fallen through, this might not be the case?

No further articles, devoted purely to this issue, will be added until we know one way or the other what is going on, but there is a thread in the forum that has been running for the past 18-hours or so that allows you to keep up with the 'latest developments', click - here...

I've said it in the forum and I'll say it hear. I simply don't see Hunt being of equal value to Nugget and so cant see this being a goer. I can see Hunt joining us if we buy him - but also, if not Nugget then who plays up front? Utaka and Kanu? Just Utaka - running tirelessly all day, dieing for the pompey cause and knocking in 20 a season? And as for Wilson, a very good loan option AS LONG as he actually gets first team action. I HATE it when we load players to Championship sides and they spend the whole time on the bench when they could do that here (less wages I s'pose)...

This isn't a goer at all. Nugent's the only good striker we've got left. Hunt seems like a decent wideman, but he won't do us any good with no one up front to put the goals in. As Jim says, you can just see Utaka running all day long and scoring 20 goals a season, can't you? Assuming we don't go ahead and sell him to Stoke too. Have we found some kind of loophole where teams who begin the season with less than ten outfield players can't be relegated or something?

if they are interested in marc wilson as well, then maybe they know they will not get Nuge.. looks like they want shot of Hunt according to the Reading.Vital page.. Wilson and 2mil would do nice

Worse, according to The Newts, Pompey have set their sights on Viduka. Remind me, wasn't he a complete waste of space at the Barcodes last season? Didn't his, and others, injuries and 'don't give a toss' attitude relegate the 'Sleeping Giant', 'The Big Club' (I mean Newcastle - when will they ever describe them correctly . . erm . . failed Premier League Team, pile of crap, moron supported, over paid & over hyped, maybe?) I am prepared to eat my hat over Marked Veruka but believe it will outlive me in this case.

Bambi on Ice or not, at least he tries hard - no to a swap.

I want Nooge to stay, he had limited opertunities and when he did play he was on the wing which was not his position however he gave his all for the cause. Nooge is a work horse and given a decent run in his correct position will see him score goals im sure. Some will disagree strongly so all i say is give him a decent run then judge him.

I can't believe that what everyone saw in him two seasons ago is just gone. He's very young really and so confidence will play a big part which, let's face it Harry destroyed and Hart hasnt helped playing him out of position out of necessity. I'm for seeing Nugent blossom here - Hunt for Nugent no... and I'd even be loathed to lose Wilson given our small no.s especially at right back. Unless Nodster has seen the pompey bank account, it looks good and there are some big debits to croatia, spain and france.

Hunt for Nugent, lets do it. Hasn't Nugent has enough chances at PL level?
30/07/2009 13:45:00
I like Nugent, but I would get Hunt instead. We need Wilson as a cover for Finnan, and it is not easy to get in players at RB positions. But, we can do withouth Nugent and get in another striker. Maybe yes, he have no confindence, but we cannot afford to lose out on Hunt simply because we are hoping that Nugent come good.

I like Nuge a lot, but am wondering if he is coming close to running out of chances. He more than likely wouldn't go anyway - twitchy tried to offload him too, but he just wouldn't leave. Hope its not true that the Kalinic deal has fallen though, perhaps its just part of the negotiation process. Marc Wilson can on no account be allowed to leave, unless its on loan to get match experience.

Double figure aim for Baker

Goals are in the game of Baker; we've seen this already as the midfielder has scored four for Pompey since his arrival from MK Dons in the summer. His aim is at least 10-goals.
