Front-runners for Zaki/McCormack interest ended?

'Reports' this evening are 'claiming' that Pompey are the 'front runners' to in the 'race' to sign Amr Zaki but an interest in Ross McCormack has been ended due to the price being too high...

According to Zaki's agent, Nader Shawqi and what he has apparently 'exclusively' told Goal.com, as the striker only want to play in the premier league Pompey are the only club in the running for him: 'the only offer we have for Amr in England is from Portsmouth.

'Amr is only interested in Premier league.'

Malaga are 'said' to have made a 'firm offer' for the Egyptian but the premier league is where he wants to play. This begs the question, if Pompey are the only side that are in for him from the premier league, and this is a move he wants, then why has his agent said anything?

Could it be that he is trying to drum up more interest in his client...

As for McCormack, according to Wales Online, an apparent interest the in Cardiff striker has today been dropped.

Enquires were 'said' to have been made yesterday but with a £5m price tag put on the Scottish international we are said to have walked away.

Maybe Hart discovered that McCormack doesn't want to play wing rather than be a striker.

Or may be as McCormack has said he doesnt want to play second fiddle to Jay BOthroyd or Chopra... we're after them now instead... woooooooooh

I've just read elsewhere that the Kalinic deal is off because of a disagreement over his agents cut of the deal. This gets worse. I'm glad I got 3/1 on us being relegated and 14/1 to finish bottom at the bookies.

yet another day as a Pompey fan...it's never been any different! If I went up, down, up, down, this much in my private life i'd be a top porn star

I wouldn't bet on us losing I sort of feel disloyal thinking about it; eachway on a draw is the way around it; I take your point though

burnley, hull and someone will probs go down, just gotta hope that someone is not us
PompeyJoe
With the Kalinic deal off, will we go back in for Mccormack? Doubt it Mr Hart has been seen talking to Rob Earhshaw from Forest!
bluedr
do we have any solid proof yet about the Kalinic deal being off ?

up down up down, thats the long and short of it, the highs and lows ofbeing a Pompey Fan....Very disapointed about Kalinic, what we normally find out is some argument over about £100k, which in comparison is chicken feed, what alosannoys me is that Hart and co may have found a gem that no one else was interested in, or saw but now everyone will check out and Hull City or Burnley or more likely Fat Sam. Why cant they just sort it. I am not convinced with ALF/SAF either and i just hate not knowing what is going on....

..oh and the reason we are top runners for Zaki is,,,BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WANTS HIM...were supposed to be flogging Belhadj because he has attitude problems and at the same time we are linked with this guy, is he Nicolas Anelkas sulkier brother??....
plymouth graham
why, The Rabbi, would you bet on pompey to fail? i do not understand? why would any pompey fan want to bet on us to go down, bet on us to finish and even worse be 'glad' at odds given... i do not understand, please explain?

I don't know whether Hart is the right manager for Zaki but I would love to see him at Pompey. Every purchase is a gamble but he was in awesome form for the first first quarter (maybe fifth) of last season. And I don't mean in a Utaka sense - he looked Man U quality

We are in a good deal if we get Zaki. He wants to play in England and he is eager to succeed as his first campaign was disrupted by clashes with Bruce. I do not think that he will cause any problems if he had to come, as I am sure that certain matters will be discussed befroe we sign him.

Zaki's goals per game ratio is somewhere around 0.6, including club and international football. That stands up pretty well against most strikers. With the squad we have and the money we have, we can't afford to be fussy and expect to take no risks on our purchases. Risking a little on attitude to get a player with a great goalscoring record is, in my opinion, probably the safest risk you can take. On the flip side, his agent is clearly desperate to get some other clubs interested in him, and given his goalscoring record, why aren't they already interested? Maybe they know something I don't.
