Hunt? Please! Plus other Mail Pompey 'rumours'

The Mail has plenty to 'offer' us late this Tuesday evening - it 'claims' that Stephen Hunt 'is talking to Portsmouth over a £3.5m move.' Apparently 'Reading have dropped their asking price' for the winger who has been repeatedly linked with Everton.

'If' there is any truth to this at all I would be delighted, as Hunt can offer us something exciting from a wide midfield role as well as score goals, he would be a fantastic signing - but time will tell...

Ross McCormack, who sky sports 'understand' we have made an approach for, is also mentioned - The Mail says we are 'also talking to Cardiff striker Ross McCormack over a £3m deal.' Again, time will tell but I do not really know either way on this one.

We are also 'said' to be 'weighing up a deal' for trialist Modeste M'Bami and are also 'due to hold talks' with Mahamadou Dabo, a defender who plays for St Etienne.

How are we going to pay for some, or all, or these deals?

Apparently we plan to sell John Utaka to Stoke for £6m... I could live with that, even though you could almost guarantee that the Nigerian would become 'a superstar' should he move on!

Our attempts to sign Nikola Kalinic 'could stall due to red tape' though? It is said that the move for the Croatian 'may fall foul of work permit regulations.' That would be a setback as the guy looks a decent prospect and 'seems' keen to play for us as well.

Plenty to sink your teeth in to here from The Mail - I wonder how much of it actually will come true!

I'd take that lot if it was on offer.. not many comaplaints from me .. Kalinic was bound to have Work Permit problems but they can always (mostly) be overcome.. and if he can't sign for us it's not like he can sign for another british club is it .. I'll take the Daily Mails offer..

Yep, I said all along that he wouldn't get a work permit I'm afraid. He hasn't played 90% of International games for 2 years .He's played 2- 3 out of about 12 in one year. I was totally ridiculed on BBC as having no knowledge of regulations. Sadly, think I'm right this time and you won't get him.

A bold YES for Hunt. I wonder if Stoke are ready to pay 6m for Utaka. I assume that they will chop it off to 2-3m before they get him. I think we should not sell him unless we get a right winger. At least we can utilse him there and then sell him in January. I am sure that the guy is willing to prove himself, and this time it is not a question of playing up front or on the wing! He simply has to give us something back.

if he goes to stoke, and they play him in his obvious position, he'll get them 15 goals this year

Just thinking, If Croatia are part of the EU (I don't know) there can't be any permit problems!

I'd go for the two Hunts, Stephen from Reading and lad from Bolton who I think they are looking to offload.

Sadly Croatia is not a member state of the EU, so having only played 3 games for Croatia I doubt very much if he will get a work permit automatically, it will go to appeal for sure. I just cant believe Pompey would go to all this expense given the financial circumstances to waste a shed load of money negotiating his capture and flying him over here & subjecting him to a medical unless they had already got the nod from the Work Permit department in Government. So there are 1 of 2 outcomes to this story 1. Pompey's management are THICK and should be sacked for gross stupidity, and we really do have muppets in charge at Fratton Park, or 2. Nikolai Kalinic will be on the plane to Portugal. watch this space! I for one hope we do get Kalinic. Hunt will be a very welcome addition on the right wing along with Steve Finnan at right back, It seems like Pompey are at least trying to fill some holes with players who actually play in their natural positions, so well done on that Mr Hart. Oh and having watched the pre-season friendlies, the only player on trial I would keep is Fabrice Pancrate, he has definitely earned a contract as far as I'm concerned when compared to the efforts of the rest of team.

Hunt would be great, but I am feeling slightly miffed at the news that we are selling Matt Ritchie to Notts County. Surely he was one of the youth set-up that we thought would come good? 100,000 does not seem very much either.

At the end of the day Matt Ritchie is not good enough for premiership football, 100k is a good deal & 1 less wage bill, he obviously wants to play for Notts county & they have given him a chance to get on the football ladder and be a full time contracted player who will give him games every week, If he shines he will climb the league ladders, I'm sure thats better than rotting in the reserves, besides Pompey are bound to have a sell on clause for all young-uns, they would be stupid not too, having invested all that money in hi, . I mean that's the idea of an academy system isn't it make money on home grown talent.

As someone else said about Kalinic, if we can persuade the FA to let us have Mbesuma as a player of exceptional talent, then Kalinic should be a walk in the park.

Lol, yeah what a player he was!!! As said before I can't see us going through all the negotiations without already checking and sorting his work permit out. We'll c. On signing Hunt, I'd love to have him here. He's direct and will always take defenders on, good business at 3.5 mil.

if we sell ritchie 100k thats a joke they can f off .. and if we do sell him for this joke of a fee put a 50% sell on clause init..

I'd be very upset if we sold Ritchie, 50% sell on clause plus a buy back of 1m at the very least if he must go.... Hunt would be a yes yes yes from me. Great player. Kalinic will not get an automatic Work Permit, it will go straight to review at a hearing in front of a board. He will get a permit though because he's young and just broken into the Croatian team and the croatian manager likes him and has publically stated he has a promising future for the croatian team.

I am trying very hard to see the Logic in Harts so-called "Overhaul" we are being linked with some useful players ie Hunt(s) , Kalanic et al. and I have these moments when I feel reasonably optimistic. This side of me says that if they knit together it could be a team that will fight hard and if we don't shrink into a defensive shell could do quite well. (By that I mean we won't get relegated) But then I see Matt Ritchie get sold to Sven for 100k, and I wonder where the logic went. Sven might be tactically naive but he spots s good player. Why oh why with such a small squad do we let a promising player go when we have said publicly we are looking for the best young talent in Europe to groom through for the future. As I have said on here, a million times, some one needs to get the communication right from Fratton Park. Over the last few days since the so-called takeover, the messages have been contradicting in every sense. Ok you can make exuses for them by saying we are in the middle of a change of management, but I don't think they are talking to each other. Storrie is still there cocking up negotiations in his usual manner i.e. Crouch, looking decidedly uncomfortable on the website interviews. And so he should, he has a lot to answer for. Earlier Hart says he didn't want Crouch because he didn't fit into the new style of playing. And yesterday he says he didn't want to lose him but we needed the money to pay off debts. I don't think I know a lot about anything really, but I do seem to know that what is going on at the moment is bordering on the farcical. SAF needs to get a grip of this lot and get them all facing in the same direction, because all we are doiing is fuelling an enviroment for the fans (us) that will turn ugly if things don't go well on the pitch and behind the scenes. I have also said that SAF wouldn't buy into the PL to get us relegated. So I think Storrie and Hart may be on very short tenures if things don't start to come together. I hope I am wrong but I do think that by January we could see some major changes if not.

just one thing, why is everyone assuming that all we are getting for ritchie is 100,000? there has been nothing mentioned about any price on anything 'officiallish', the bbc or sky sports for example - just a 'six-figure sum' has been mention, that could mean 100,000, that could mean 900,000...

My thinking is that Al Fahim will use his first 6 months at the club to look over how things are run. And we will then see some major changes either in January or June, with a hope that Storrie will be given the heave-ho... I doubt he will make any changes soo soon, specially as he'll need storrie to help him get to grips with the club. No one knows the shambles of our club like the guy that created the shambles!

that`s what i think Bowlsey.I can`t see Al Fahim taking over and just chuck money at the club to buy any player we want.He needs time to see how things are run and then maybe in january if we need to add more players he may give paul a bigger budget. But i think major changes will be next summer on the field. In the mean time lets get the stadium sorted and the training ground.
