'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A rare story!!

The News reports

The right-back was released by Spanish side Espanyol yesterday and becomes a much-needed addition to the Blues.

Pompey have been searching for a right-back since selling Glen Johnson to Liverpool this summer.

Finnan, who has played for the Merseysiders and Fulham, is set to join Pompey on their pre-season trip to Portugal.

The 33 year old has been linked for a while, but is certainly needed in a squad that has been decimated lately by sales. Harry Redknapp's "bare bones" stories look pretty tame by Pompey's standards right now, hopefully the sales will start to dry up now or the team will have to come out to Bob Marley's "exodus" next season.

In other news, reports in the Middle East are bubbling over that Egyptian bad-boy Amir Zaki could be on his way on loan also, well should be good until January when he can go awol anyway!

Breaking News - Portsmouth right-back Steve Finnan has been linked with a move to Hull City... In all seriousness, it's good to see someone come into the club, long may it continue.

I so want to be upbeat, But...I suppose I'll just have to get used to old timers, freebies and cast offs of lower league clubs...Sorry sorry times. There's more money (supposedly) in the Premier League this year than ever. Just as everyone else is is starting to look like Jewel (Google her, she's a singer, poet etc) we're looking more like Amy bloody Whitehouse!!!!!

Yeh, i liked Finnan in the past, but he was a Pool reserve really, and i have worry's about his ability to be effective in the premier Lg..serious doubts, buy PH is not a Mug I think. I would be very happy to have Kalinic, Mc Cormac, And Zaki join, and M.Dabo too

Consolidation is the key,he may not be glen Johnson but he does have premier league experiance, who cares if our back line are 30 somethings, its hopefully all going to come together next season when SAF is bedded in.Agree we do need some quality in midfield though, two wingers, possibly Steven Hunt is coming so just wait and see what we have got on the first game of the season. I just read that the Kalinic deal is encountering some work-permit problems. Maybe this is why we are in for Zaki and McCormick. Both players are capable, especially Zaki who has shown that the PL suits him well.

Things are bright. Hunt might be joining too. The good thing is that we are being linked with some decent players now and not with a Bopp type. M'Biami will be the one taken to Portugal, and the guy is not that bad, he played International football too. Finnan, fantastic signing - not a Glen Johnson true, but the best we could get at this point in time. I hope Dabo comes too.

why do people keep moaning about the midfield. Only right mid is totally vacant. Diop can be fantastic - Utd were looking at him at Fulham before he got injured. Basinas we're all hopeful of and then Krancjar or Belhadj. Not bad. Happy enough with Finnan. Perfect player really as he's only here for a year and can do a job.

A signing, some good news. I feel the same as you Penton. At least the wonderful days were very recent & fresh in the memory!
