Hart coy, yet hopeful, about Finnan

There have been conflicting views on Steve Finnan recently, with accounts varying. Some 'reports' say he does not want to leave Espanyol, others are saying that an arrangement is being looked at to terminate the Republic of Ireland internationals contract?

Either way, Paul Hart has told The News that he is 'hopeful' that a deal can be agreed with the right back: 'we are interested in Finnan and are hoping something can happen on that one soon.

'There are a few things need clearing up. That's all I want to say right now.'

To be honest I am slightly concerned about his ability to remain injury free, and the fact that he is, what 33-years-old? That said quality, experience and players that do want to play for us is what will be needed this season!

Quality - this is clearly something that the guy has, or at last had, hopefully the 'had' part does not come into play.

Experience - again, clearly something that he has.

Wanting to play for us - time will tell on that score!

All-in-all, so as long as can stay injury-free I reckon he would make a good signing, and as it stands it would appear that he will be available on a free?

Poor signing. After what promised to be an exciting summer, I can't help but feel disappointed. Sell Johnson for £18m and replace him with a player 33 year old free transfer.

all the 'we have some very, very good players lined up' was clearly a case of speaking too soon, still i liked finnan for liverpool and would have him anyday, if hes not fit from time to time, we'll play cranie or wilson, which isnt soo bad......as long as he is too long out.

that is the point tho, we sell players because we have to, bring in 'cheap options' - but options that will offer as much, if not more than those that were so-called 'superstars', offering more than they did anyway...like ive said before, isnt a 'lesser player' offering 100% more useful than a 'superstar' only offer 50%? in the meantime battle through and then see what the future bring - at the end of the day, and look back at whatever anyone said, we were never promised multi-million pound signings. once again, believe it or not, i say keep positive, keep the faith and reap the benefits in the future - if im wrong, so be it...

Sorry, I try not to be negative, but when you look at what we have been shoppig for? We are in real trouble. I never expected flash players, but we are starting to look like it would be a step up bringing collins mbseuma back! Moutaouakil - Charlton (league 1), Beppo (league 2) Are they taking the pidd or what? I think answers need to be demanded of the club as to how it has been allowed to get into such a state, and those responsible, I guess possibly Storie, shoudl be fired. Come on now Doc, how can storie be any better than anyone else, he has driven the club to the edge of disaster. We could appoint a new CEO on half the money and pay for a half decent striker!

I like Finnan. I think he is still very capable at 33. If we get him for a 2-yr deal, that won't harm anyone, especially if we are going to get him for free.

Would be a good addition. Agree with Wakey, if Doc is serious in his long term plans for the club, he has a funny way of showing it.
