Pompey 'gossip' galore!

Well, it is a bumper day for 'gossip' today for Pompey, with some good news about the clubs and countries no.1 too - so, lets take a look...

Finnan - coming or going?

Depending on where you read the 'reports' Steve Finnan could be coming to Pompey, well at the very least leaving Espanyol...

Pompey, along with Stoke, Sunderland and Wolves - who I would 'guess' have the advantage due to his previous with Mick McCarthy, the former Ireland manager - are all 'said' to be interested in the right back.

Some 'reports' say that his agent has said he does not want to leave he Spanish side, others, from sporting director Ramon Planas, say that they are in discussions to 'tear up the final 12 months of his deal'...

For what it is worth, the guy is a very good footballer, although at around 33 and with injuries behind him recently maybe he is not what we are looking for - then again can we be that 'choosy' at the moment?

==========

Victor Obinna on his way?

Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport are 'claiming' that Victor Obinna is 'poised to join Premier League side Portsmouth.'

The Inter forward was set for a 5.5m move to Napoli but this deal feel through, due to something about a 'policy over image rights'...

Everton apparently tried to sign the 22-year-old striker last summer but were denied a work permit for the Nigerian international, who is also being 'linked' with Marseille, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, so we would be in good company!

Apparently a 'formal bid' will be launched anytime...

==========

Just shut it big mouth!

After all his talk yesterday about Peter Crouch and 'not being able to afford him', giving it the old sob story - you know like he does to get into people's heads and make his intentions know, Jamie's Dad is at it again today!

Although his 'thoughts' are seemingly positive ones today as he 'claims' that Sylvain Distin is going to sign a new contract with Pompey...

Why are people, assuming this is even true - other things that he has said before have been proven true - still telling him things?

Then again this is probably another of his 'unsettling attempts', mentioning players - getting them into the public eye is what he does, this then gives him 'free reign' to repeatedly mention them more and more to the media... Why is he constantly allowed to do his 'public' tapping up of players? Just do not answers questions when asked, it is that simple, shut it big mouth!

So, 'if' Distin is signing a new contract lets hear it from the horses mouth. This would be good news and a sign of commitment to the club though...

==========

James to return tomorrow?

It is not definite, and I would say as much as David James probably will want to play tomorrow, airing on the side of caution is something that Paul Hart will do, but the Pompey and England no.1 'could' return against Basingstoke this weekend.

Hart told The News that the keeper has 'made unbelievable progress', but seems to be playing down the chances of actually starting, I would guess even playing tomorrow - but he is getting closer!

==========

Liverpool return for Crouchy?

We laughed off the suggestion that Peter Crouch could return to the bin dippers, following 'reports' back along, but it is again being 'reported' that the scousers are trying to tempt him back?

It is not as laughable as it seemed a few weeks back, but I would still question why Crouch would want to return to a club that he left because he was not playing enough...

The England international wants to move on to enhance his chances of going to next summers world cup, although it is also 'said' he does not even want to leave? Either way it would seem odd to go back to being a 'bit part player' with them again?

I am also hearing another reason we are looking to offload the big man is because we want this to get a 'wage structure' in place - something I must admit I am all for, structuring what we pay, and sticking to this, is a bloody good idea! It is just a shame it comes at a price, but it is a price worth paying, as not doing this in the past is what got us into this mess we are in!

==========

So, there you have it guys, plenty to ponder here and sink your teeth into! Thoughts on some, or all, as always are welcomed and sought below...

Finally a wage structure!! Great news if its true!
Bowlsey
I agree, it's always good to have a 'wage structure' in place, it stops us signing tempting players that are too expensive and is the ultimate 'no' when existing players want to renegotiate their contracts. Well done Pompey.
Et_tu_Pompeii
I have a wage structure idea, pay players a reasonable retainer with large bonuses for wins, goals clean sheets etc. The better thay play the more they earn.
Steve C
just to make it clear, the 'wage structure' thoughts i mention are just 'what i am hearing' but it seems realistic and is certainly a bloody good idea!

I cannot see Crouch going to Liverpool and I am starting to think that no matter what it has been said about the striker, he is going to remain with us unless we sell him cheaper than 12. I ask, why didn't he leave for Sunderland if he really wanted to leave? Geographical issues, I do not think so.

Finnan is a great player, and would suit us in a 2-year deal. I am so excited about the prospect that now its time to start doing our bids in the market. Distin - great news if he does, and he will be captain as a bonus.

i would of liked finnan but he is getting old and he wont keep up with most players he also a bit injury prone.Vitor obina i wouldnt mind looks a good player

Have you ever been to Sunderland Pompeymalta? If you had you'd understand why he wouldn't want to go there! Great ground, great fans but thats about it, i suppose you could throw in cheap beer in the working mens clubs but that really is the end of its good points.
Steve C
Yeh I can understand he wouldn't want to go there as well, especially if a couple of London clubs are in for him. So Jamies Dad can't afford him then? Ha ha. Perhaps he will stay? We obviously need a wage structure of some kind, not having one almost bankrupted us. What about this Croatian player I keep hearing about?
tracyc
I remember HR saying quite clearly at a news conference at Pompey when he was under the spotlight over transfer irregularities that he didn't know what the players got paid, he just told Storrie who he wanted and that was the end of his involvement. I saw him yesterday saying Crouchy was on 80k pw and that he was nearly 30 (actually 28) He is so transparent it hurts. Does he really think that people don't realise his game. If I was Crouchy I'd either stay or go to Fulham. I do hope SAF gives Storrie some lessons in negotiations as well.

I have heard that Pompey r trying to sign Nikola Kalinic croatian striker aged 21 from Hajduk Split..He was rumoured to be a target for Chelsea last season
