Upping the ante?
'Reports' recently, but growing more today, 'claim' an offer has been made for Sam Ricketts, Villa have upped their offer for Sylvain Distin - but face competition from Liverpool and Mark Viduka is on the radar?
Sam Ricketts
So, firstly onto Ricketts. The guy has been 'linked' for some time, he is a Welsh international and in the final year of his contract. He seems to have done well with Hull but I must admit that I have not paid enough attention to know exactly how good he is?
The Mirrors 'claim' is a £2m offer has been made, but Bolton also want him - though I had read the other day that Everton might fancy him too?
Sylvain Distin
Yesterday Peter Storrie said that Sylvain Distin was 'not for sale' - of course this does not mean he will not be sold, we just have to hope that we keep to this!
Various outlets were saying that Villa would 'up their offer', a reported £2.5m opening bid was rejected, but today - and again in The Mirror - it is 'claimed' that the bin dippers are ready to 'rival' Villa 'once Martin O'Neill has agreed a price.'
So, it would appear that The Mirror believes that a price will be agreed anyway...
Mark Viduka
A few 'reports' of an interest in the 33-year-old Aussie have surfaced recently on t'internet but overnight fox sport, Australia, have picked up on this more and believe that Pompey are going 'head-to-head' with Hull for the veterans signature.
Should we be able to tempt Brian Kidd back to Fratton as a coach fox sport seems to think that would give us the 'upper hand' due to their past workings together.
As it is, in my thinking, I would not be keen on Viduka.
Yep, fantastic footballer on his day, but just look at the injuries - he would not come cheap and if we cannot get him out onto the pitch then what is the use? That said I was willing, and had hoped, for Michael Owen to sign, so what is the difference, well apart from 4-years in age...
So, what are the thoughts guys? Can you see any of the above being anything more than 'gossip', or do you think there could be some truth in some, most or all?

Not a fan of the big man if I am to be honest. Too injury prone for my liking.

So 'in financail terms' we swap Distin for Ricketts .. er no thanks but obviously Distin wants out I guess otherwise why would we let him go .. It's not like he's a huge income generator unless hs wags are high of course.. Ricketts as an addition yeah I could go with that. As for Viduka he could be a good squad/impact player but surely isn't a viable season long option... Is anybody woried about the age of these players ? If we had Basinas, Viduka and Ricketts on the pitch at the same time those three players alone would total 100 years in age,, then there's Hermanm.. Kanu.. er.. I might just start a zimmerframe business !

It's not the greatest sounding transfer news I have ever heard. Ok so we have not got millions to spend, or we are not going to spend millions I forget which it is. Surely there must be some better names for us out there. I have seen we have also been linked to Stephen Hunt from reading this morning as well.

No too Viduka. Starts well, Never plays during the winter. May turn up in the spring.The wrong attitude for what may be a tough season. As for Distin, the club will take the money.

Viduka? Absolutely not, he's a bigger, older, more injury prone mercenary than some of the ones we've just got rid of. Steven Hunt? I'm ok with that, he's been a little sought after over the years, he's youngish and probably reasonably waged. Sam Ricketts? As an extra with Eunice and (the possibly departing) Sylvie but not as a replacement for the 'I'll play for heem but not for heem', 'sacre bleu, I never touched him, ref' Frenchman. Maradona? You having a laugh? I refer the honourable gentlemen to my previous comments. Still fancy Benji, though, in a erm, purely footballing context, of course.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire with the likes of Viduka. No thanks. I just read a report about interest in Hunt from Reading, more the sort of player we need, gives 110% every game and has a bit of skill.
