Storrie says 'Sylvain is staying!'

Storrie says 'Sylvain is staying!'

As The News puts it today, Pompey - via what Peter Storrie told them - have issued a 'hands off' warning over Sylvain Distin: 'we want Sylvain to remain at this football club and will be making sure he does.

'We have only ever had one offer for him and I am not at liberty to say who from. But we told them we were not interested under any circumstances.

'At this moment in time, as far as we are concerned, Sylvain is staying. It's as simple as that.'

To be honest the Frenchman has not been my favourite people recently, but we really cannot afford to lose both Distin and Sol!

We just have to hope that, if he does stay - by that I mean we do decide that we really do not want to sell him - that he knuckles down and does his talking on the pitch and not off it. I am not convinced he is the man for it but 'maybe' offering him the captains armband could be a sweetener...

As for Peter Crouch it was confirmed that he will be sold, for 'footballing reasons' because an 'exceptional money' offer has been made: 'Peter will not be staying. I'm aware of the Sunderland situation but there are other clubs in for him.

'With him it is a club decision to sell. It's like anything if exceptional money is offered you look at it and that is the instance in this case. Sulaiman has been aware of that so there is no problem there.'

If selling Crouch is in the best interests of the club then this is something we have to support and back - again, as with so many, and most things, we cannot alter what will happen, we just accept this, draw a line under it and move on.

We must bring in some quality though, that goes without saying...

I must admit I have been unsure about doing this but Benjani may well prove exactly what we need, and picking up Citeh casts offs, for example, might not be a bad way to go - survival this season is a must!

Glad Distin is staying but he needs to keep his game head on! Jamo for Captain in my eyes.

I like the idea of Jamo for skipper Sneakay. Just wonder if he is too maverick for it though? And would the rest of the team be clever enough to understand half of what he says??

Distin, a part from a spell last season, has been excellent during his time at Pompey and the captaincy would be a reward for that. Goalkeepers do not make good captains.

Need Distin, it all reminds me of when we got to the semi's in '92, the big boys came sniffing but Anderton left and we managed to hold onto Symons and Awford, this time read Crouch and Distin and Kaboul, teams are built from the back, and after his "doughnut" spell Distin is Mr. Consistency

If Distin stays , he should be made captain, and paired with Kaboul as our main central defensive pairing, I for one am glad of the noises coming out of FP to say he is staying, but ill be nervously checking the final day transfer dealings, just in case Pompey need to raise more capital to stave off the administrators.

Hope he stays & has his mind in the game. Basinas has support for being Captain. As for this massive offer for Crouch, not much more than what we paid for him. Should be getting nearer £15m. Money will clear debt, none of it will be reinvested in the club.

Why couldn't those 3 words (Distin is Staying) have been said before and given us some hope to cling on to when all the s**t was flying. Reading between the lines of Peter Storries interview on the web site yesterday Crouch is going for tactical reasons. I'm guessing he's not the player to suit the style Paul Hart wants to play. I'm a Crouch fan and would've loved to have him stay but only if we will be playing a system that suits him.

same as the davis affair we could accept a 3m bid but he could be the diiffernce of us staying up or going down. he will leave for free next year but we will still be in the prem.. krankjar i would sell if a 8m bid comes in he can also leave for free nxt year and i think we can replace him or just play 4-4-2 plus 8m will come in handy.. gutierrez 4m tuncay 4m
