Hart on the job in hand...

You do not need me to say what I think of the appointment of Paul Hart, nor do I need to ask your opinions on this - I think most have made this clear already, but simple fact is he is the manager now so we have to know what he is thinking.

He spoke to pfcTV shortly after his appointment was confirmed and has plenty to say, this is a summarisation of what he did say...

He said he was 'looking forward to challenge' but did not see the appointment as 'reward' for keeping us in the premier league last season - as far as he was concerned he was 'contracted to do a job', which he did. He is 'looking forward to the season' but knows that 'it will be a tough one' but we will be 'competitive and a difficult proposition'.

Hart says after talking to Dr SAF he himself is also 'looking forward to his challenge, and this allows us to look forward' after this being done, with this deal needing to be something that had to be done 'sooner rather than later - but not necessarily needed before Havant game', as it proved...

He also said 'pre-season was going well, the players were in 'good condition, working hard and showing a good attitude'.

Portugal will be a 'good indicator' but by the time we play Rangers he will expect the team to be 'nearer to what he will want to have to be in place' when the season kicks off but 'nerves will be growing' however he has 'fire is in the belly.'

A 'few' trialist's 'will be looked at', as 4 were against Havant, with him 'happy to be playing local clubs as it is good for them and us'.

Apparently, as had been reported, a 'list of players' that were 'conjured up' before the end of last season are being looked at. Some have 'committed', although I am not sure if he meant that are here already or those that might come in?

What was he aiming for? He said it was 'important to stay in the premier league, anything else a bonus.'

Something that I noticed even more than I had before, he says 'err' hell of a lot!

In a separate interview with sky sports news he confirmed that Peter Crouch, whilst no other bids have been acceptable a yet, is still likely to go: 'I think not. I think Peter will leave.

'Peter was fantastic during the three months that I was caretaker manager last season and we will be sorry to lose him.

'Everybody wants to keep their best players but we have to be realistic.'

I am now really confused on this, if you want to keep your best players you keep them, right? That said if players want to leave you let them leave so, despite going back and forth on this issue it 'seems' as though Crouch does actually want to leave?

If so, so be it - I am bitterely disappointed by this if this is the case as we gave him, as we had so many others, a platform to build on and look how we are repaid... That said from a financial point of view maybe needs must, and if this means we are able to stand on a sustainable footing, again I guess so be it!

Whatever though, the sooner we draw a line under this issue the better - where he goes I do not really care now, lets just get this done so we can move on.

For what it is worth, here are some of my own thoughts to sum up...

Yep, it is going to be a tough, tough season - I think we need to prepare for this. At least up until January things will be very tight.

We are not going to spend much money, so anyone expecting this will be surprised, for me how we do spend this will be crucial.

What we do need, without a doubt, is players that will give nothing less than 100% every time they play, but they need to also have enough quality about them - getting this blend right is going to be the massive challenge, but we cannot underestimate the part that we, the fans, will have to play this season...

Storrie said something in his interview about player(s) going to change the shape of the team (or words to that effect). I'm sure he meant Crouch. PUP

Could be a season of "Tony Pulis" type football, defensive with the onus on not conceding, not great to watch but playing to your strengths.
paultsmouth
off storry a bit here but does anyone know who that player was who played for what i think was birmingham called some thing like zayate and was on loan. he was good at free kicks. just wanted to know what club he is at now.
pompeycook
We are financially secure and have a future that is better than this morning. Crouch won't stay cos he didn't like the way Hart played him last year and I think the money he will raise will be used to bring in the new players we need. Unfortunately 12m will probably buy all 7 of them!
L L Blue
maurio zarate, or something like that, he plays for lazio now i believe and had been 'linked' with a 'big-money' move to the bin dippers back along...
just seen some thoughts on BBC from hart, he says something like gone are the days of '20m signings in the short-term, but maybe not in the long-term'... i really do think we have to expect 'bare bones' until january, but then i 'think' that we might well see some money come into the club.
pompeyrug
mauro zarate? thats who i persume you mean cook and i think he went to Lazio?.. but i could be wrong. as for Hart give the guy a chance imo.. hey if its as boring as everyone thinks it'll be you can tell me 'you told me so' but atm i'm more than happy to at least give him the chance he probably deserves tbh but i really, really hope theres something in his contract that allows him to go back to the youth side if he does get fired =/
pompeym@
pompeycook that will Mario Zarate now of Lazio
L L Blue
agree L L Blue, thing are better now than they were a week ago, hell 24-hours ago - god only knows what would have happened had this not gone through now, a scratch together side staring with 0pts is better than an even more scratched together side on -10pts... things will get better, we just need to give it time and really, and i mean, really support the team big time!
pompeyrug
'if' hart gets fired i do not think there is anyway back into the youth side now, it just wouldnt be possible - i do not see how he could go into work everyday looking at people that fired him/got him fired... we just have to hope that this works out.
pompeyrug
yes that was it mauro zarate, thanks. jst thought he would be a good player for pompey.
pompeycook
whAT about ameobi of newcastle <<
pompeyhussler
the first half of the season, i expect to endure. The second half, when someone relaises we really are in trouble, could - but only could - be more exciting. Erickson in talks with notts county. why not pompey?!
pompeycarpet
we need to get a few good loANS IN THIS YEAR. what do u think our best loan in the prem is?? delasandro??
pompeyhussler
I'd love ADA back hussler but I read somewhere (In Dave's Sunday Toast I think) that is is suspended by FIFA for 90 days for having a punch-up or something.. still he'll still have some tme to play.. That would be a feel good signing don't ya think !
Chix
Agree Hussler. There are many others who can do a job even on loan. Newcastle have some, Boro too.
Pompey Malta
get all the new lot back oniel , benjani i would have i think they are on the cards. if we can get 4m for utaka snap their arms off and spend it on tuncay. he was class last season and he can play attacking mid. stephen hunt 4m randal on loan from arsenal ?? where has leroy lita gone??
pompeyhussler
who got doyle from reading in the end hes quality striker.... all these teams like stoke, hull, birmingham are spending at least 15-20mill we have to match that.... plus we only have half the squadds they do.
pompeyhussler
BUYING a player nowdays is like buying a house the price may go up or down.. so its an investment we have to make the most of newcastle middlesbough etc and snap these players up at a cheap price. but be wise and only buy players proven in the prem and players which cant drop in value.. newcastle need to offload players so get them at bargain prices.. there value will only rise..
pompeyhussler
Doyle is at wolves along with surman..two very good byes...talking of which Goodbyes is what we will be biddibg to the prem this season. Sorry its just the way i see it. The dodgy new chairman, the 2 vertical blue stripes, and Pink goalie shirts, it all looks bleak...However i am usually wrong
plymouth graham
That's the spirit Graham! I think that we need to wait for SAF to get some investors on board before we start to spend. I think he had a few lined up, but the F&PPT scared them off. However, in time I expect he'll get some more back in & then we'll be good to go. I still think selling Crouch turns the 'agreement in principle' into a firm, signed, sealed and delivered deal.
Pompeytim
plymouth Graham, for god sake get a life, you are always doom and gloom
harrissman
I'm glad Norfolk's a long way from Plymouth ! PUP
NorfolknBlue
Graham please cheer up! Saw the home kit yesterday at H&W and there were no vertical stripes or pink tops. As long as we don't expect too much this season, it'll be fine. Anyway, as for the chairman being dodgy - would Sacha have passed the F&pp test?
