Hart stays as manager?

Arabianbusiness.com claimed an 'exclusive' on Tuesday morning that the takeover of Pompey by Dr SAF had been completed, with an announcement to be made at 10am UK time - although this was later changed to later on Tuesday, which to be far was the case as 11am is not far off :-)

They followed that up with another 'exclusive', that Paul Hart would remain in charge... EXCLUSIVE: Hart to stay as Portsmouth boss, confirms chairman.

Whilst I have before, and will again openly admit, that Hart would not be my choice of managers, should this prove the case then I will of course back him.

I do worry that if it goes belly up we would then lose his ability with the youth side of things - which we will anyway as he cannot do both, to a level required anyway - and I maintain my believe that this is his best area of expertise.

That said if anyone knows what the kids are capable of doing, then surely it is him?

You would then hope that he would have the balls to use the old 'if they are good enough they are old enough' approach.

I would imagine, should he be confirmed, that this means beyond a doubt that Matty Ritchie will get his chance as we know he rates him, he did travel with the 1st team squad for the Wigan game last season.

So, I guess, well not officially until the Pompey Site says so, it is now 'Paul Hart's blue and white army!'

We must wait until we have official confirmation of this, but assuming it is true lets give the guy a chance, lets see what he really can do with his own side and see if he can do something more 'offensive' than the negative stuff he showed last season - if you start with a defensive attitude from day one though then you know you are in trouble, so lets hope he is more offensive this time round...

Again though, whoever is the manager, lets just enjoy the fact that the takeover is done, and celebrate this today and particularly tonight at Westleigh Park to show Dr SAF why we are the best fans in the world!

Before anyone knocks Hart, remember that the 'big name' players we used to have, such as Sol & Co. all rated him. I didn't hear anyone speak badly of him. He has some continuity at the club and let's be real, this season will be tough, so who better to keep us up. "Paul Hart's Blue n' White Army"!

Well said Tim, Paul Hart got the players fighting for their lives last season and it looks at the moment like we will need the same spirit this year. In all honesty this season will be about staying in the premier league and building from there, he's proved he can do that job. With a bit of luck and some signings hopefully we won't need to play the survival football of last season but if thats what it takes to set us up for the future so be it.

Ummm, not quite ideal. We will need to replace many of the players that have gone, going & can't see that Hart has the pulling power!

I think a lot of the support from the players was for the team of Hart and Kidd. Interesting there is no mention of Brian being in the frame. Just hope that if Hart is in charge he will give Basinas the run out over Muggins and attempt to put a bit of class back into our midfield. Just hope Pompey now sue the ass of the sun for the slander against our great club, bas**rds.

The start of a new Pompey, no big name Manager, no big name Players and no stupid living beyond our means...I welcome that..come on Mr Hart!

I'm with you bluedr, we need to build up this great club. Starting with the training facility, youth academy and the stadium. I have no doubt we'll get a couple of 'ok/good' signings that will see us remain in the premiership. We can then build on from there and become a top half premier league club. But we first need stability and infrastructure!

Interesting that the OS statement didn't mention that he was staying as manager.. Agree with Bluedr & Bowlsey.. on everything apart from Hart... Don't rate him... too defensive minded I want exciting football .. not a all cost .. but exciting football... He had the opportunites to do it last season and didn't why do you think it'll be different... It'll be safety first all the way.. Id we don't conced we can not lose ...

i didn't mention i liked Hart being the manager ;) Just that we need stability before we can move on. I can't think of any manager that will provide us with that stability. I think he may be put in temporary charge again, until next season. When we have our house in order we'll be in a better position to get a new manager and attract the kind of players we want to see at Fratton Park.

Ditto Bowlsey, not number 1 choice but all we can attract and probably afford at the moment.

Hart will be okay. We are in a no lose situation we now have time to look for new players and if things don't go well we can find a new manager in our own time. I am thinking Crouch will go and he will fund our spending this side of January. The Dr will now have more time to look at ways to bring in the funding he always wanted without the F&P testing.

I have some very interesting stories to tell on how Paul Hart kept Pompey up and why some players love him but it would take for too long to tell here. Maybe I will put it all in an article one day but the future is far more important now.

has mccarthy completed his move to wigan, wolves or whoever else are said to be in for him?
if not lets get in there with a late offer, if he was good enough for hart pre-takever, 'if' there is time he would be good enough post-takeover, right?

Think we can safely say that in the next few days we will be suddenly linked to every player going. The press are going to have a field day and no doubt more mud slung in our direction! More patience is needed the most important thing is we are financially secure. As many have said and I agree most players have already been sounded out and expect to see a few arrive very quickly and out of the blue.

I think I'm alone in my thoughts ... So did we really go and sound players out saying IF we get taken over and IF we have enough money to spend would you be interested in joining Pompey.. Can't see it myself.. More likely that a lot of 'affordables' have been researched but no moves have ben made yet.. Do we honestly think we could take to a players agent and the agent would stay "oh ok then I'll keep quiet until your takeover is complete..nah not for me that theory

Eastneydave, I was told by someone very close to the players that PH had the dressing room full on last season. Not only did they respect him, he delegated well (i.e. Brian Kidd) he also has terrific contacts around the world. I am not saying he is my choice, however, with a new boss and a good brief he may well surprise us.

I think people really have to reset their expectations, i'm pretty ure this guy isn't as rich as everyone makes him out to be, he certainly hasn't got the money that the man city lot have got. I suspect that we'll still be mortgaged to the hilt with a new stadium, the difference being that he's got the collateral to back that borrowing. Time will tell, I'm certain things will improve from the current situation but not so sure that we'll find ourselves back in the top 8 and winning the FA cup for the forseeable future. Slow and steady is the way.

I am all for giving Paul Hart a chance as i guess he is going to be the boss, but what people is questioning i guess is his decisions that he made last season. When you continually play hayden mullins and in some cases Richard Hughes rather than Basinas then surely you have to raise doughts about him as a manager.

I think last season should be forgotten about, Hart came in the chips were down and he picked the team that he felt was best equipped for the job. It didn't sit well with fans because it wasn't very pretty to watch but this season he won't be playing catchup from the start and i think we will see a different style of management from him. That said there are still plenty of reports out there that a new manager will be brought in.

I don't believe any of it until it's announced. Like a lot of folk, I'd rather he stay in player development, but he's good man and does deserve the chance given what he accomplished last season. To be honest, one of my choices would be Big Sam (yeah I know I'm alone on that one !) but when you think about what he did at Bolton for years, with no budget whatsoever, it was a marvel. Maybe Paul Hart is that type of manager, who knows.

i couldn't believe it when i read on the offical site tbh but now i think about it maybe its not so bad, it brings stability and i hope that the defensiveness of last season was because he had to do it to keep us up and not because thats how he likes to play =S

Big Sam wouldn't have brought exciting football, he achieved a lot at bolton but at the expense of the fans having good football to watch.

After the last two months what we need now is some stability, Paul Hart is the only choice really. I don't think he will be the long term solution but until the Good Doctor gets in the funding he needs Hart will do the job for him. Forget about last season, he had one objective when he was appointed, STAY UP. Not pretty but effective and thank God/Allah for that.
