'If It's Football, It's Vital'

More attacking? Without signings it won't matter!

'Unless we make some big signings Paul Hart and Brian Kidd being more attacking this season, if they get the job, will not make any difference', not my vote, yours - although these findings from moley2's poll are thoughts that I do kind of share...

Off the bat I, like most others, do not want Hart to be the manager - I never have on a long-term basis, but it does not matter what we want, we just have to go with what is done and 'if' he gets the job I will back him, I just hope he offers us something to back!

I would not say that 'big signings' are necessarily needed, with all respect to Hart I cannot imagine he will be the type of name that players will be thinking 'yep, I will play for him', is he?

We just have to look at the 'big names' we had last season to see it is not always the names that you need - when, as usually happens, these big names decided they have had enough you are usually left screwed, as we were and basically continue to be!

Assuming Hart gets the job, so long as he, Peter Storrie and Dr SAF are able to bring in enough bodies with some quality about them, but above all players that will play for the shirt regardless that, in my thinking, should be enough to keep us up - and that is a must, ok looking at mere survival this season is not what I wanted, but it looks like this is what we have to be thinking...

Again, assuming he gets the job, Hart is never going to go gun ho, but we simply cannot afford to be as negative and defensively minded throughout the 09/10 season as we would not get away with it.

  • What the poll asked - If Hart and Kidd remain in charge you think they will adopt a more positive (attacking) formation?

  • How you voted - Unless we make some Big signings it won't make any difference 59%, No 24%, Yes 17%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

hart, or not, bring us players that want to play for the club and will give us 100% - good or bad times - and that will make alot of difference, as would not playing ultra diffensive week-in-week-out...

we need players like oneil , benjani , but we need a bit of skill too plus a couple of solid defenders.
    pompeyhussler
to be brutally honest, With our current sqaud, it doesn't matter who our manager is. We won't be able to play more attacking football. Having said that, I also don't think that - no matter what players we bring in, with hart as our manager we would be able to play more attacking football either...

Ohhh fck. On the brink of something we thought. What the hell is happening. Some of us may need to bring our boots!!!
    storagematt
I intend too against H&W Storagematt, I always thought i could do better than some of the time wasters we have had out on the pitch over the years, but does anyone remember the dark days just before we last went into administration, when all the players came out on to the pitch for warm up with sale prices on their vests, ten ten bob for Lee Bradbury , and 20p for Macca, 2 pints, etc fun days - big sighs! now we let Sean Davis walk on a free, and hey presto he is valued at £4.5M now, just how much would it have cost to have kept him on the books? we sure could use him this season, I cant believe PFC couldn't afford his wages. but it does tell you one thing, if PFC cant afford his wages, what calibre of player can we afford?
    doggo
I think davis wanted a fresh start - we couldn't have kept him if we had doubled his salary. And that simply wasn't going to happen. We could have sold him for that in january, but then we would be playing championship football next year, would probably not be being taken over by a rich arabian buisnessman, and would certainly be 30million worse off.

I can't help remembering how Harts negative football cost us points and those points cost places and conseuently millions in TV money. We can't survive on that styleof football and I am really reluctant to commit each Match day to watch it

I think we need to give Hart a chance. His brief was to keep us up. He thought the best way to do that with a poor squad was to grind out results. I'd like to see him once he builds a balanced squad. Let's give him a chance.
    Pompeytim
I agree Tim - he was brought in when Sacha knew if we went down Dr SAF wouldn't buy us, and knowing what debts he had and was told to do that just to keep us up. He's not my first choice either, but we might just have to given him a chance. I hope he does have Kidd alongside him though - as well as more players! Decent players, whether in terms or commitment or raw talent, ideally a bit of both.
    tracyc
I agree with you too Tim and Tracy, I have always talked highly of Hart, because he managed to save us. At least, the players started to gel up a bit under him...
