The Pompey Chimes: 5th-11th July 2009

Welcome to the Pompey Chimes - the definitive guide to the past week in the world of Pompey. Not a lot of news this week, but plenty for Vital Members to stick their teeth into!

Club News

Finally! The news that all Pompey fans have been waiting to hear; Due Diligence is now complete! For the link, and ALL the information on this, then please click here.

Other Pompey teams found out this week, namely the reserves, as they kick off their campaign at Wolves. Read about that here.

Really good news this week for Pompey fans, as it seems that the club are investing for the future with some young talent. To see the list of seven new academy youngsters, click here.

Every Sunday paper seems to bring out more and more bad news for us Pompey fans - last week was no different. Read about the latest bunch of drivel here.

It just gets worse - our kit sponsors, Canterbury have gone bust! Well, the European arm anyway. To read about that, click here.

Squad News

General rumours are that Paul Hart is going to become our next permanent manager. Something that I'm pretty averse to personally, however it seems that the official position is 'no comment'. Read more on that story by clicking here.

Now, there is a pretty good piece on Kranjcar on the official site - he indicates that he would like an injury free season, which indicates to me that he'll happily stay on to play for us next season. Look towards the official site for the video interview.

Players that have been linked to Pompey lately are M'Bami and Chimbonda. For further information, click their names!

Unfortunately that's all this week for inbound players, and double unfortunately there is plenty speculation about current squad members moving on. We've got Campbell, Distin and Crouchy all seemingly moving away. Click their names to read more.

Vital Pompey News

Read Rug's take on all things Pompey at the moment, and some advice to stay positive, here. It'll cheer you up a little bit, promise!

Chix and Dave's Quiz week 2 is in full swing, and you can find the second set of questions here. Remember to ask Chix/Dave a question to earn yourself ten bonus points if they are unable to answer it! Oh, and Chix/Dave.... there is a clue in here somewhere!

Yet more polls this week as we have voted that:
Belhadj should play on the left wing;
Benjani should be a Pompey player next season, regardless;
Martin Cranie should be Pompey's starting right-back next season.

WalshWasGod has submitted his best Pompey XI - read that here. If you want to do the same, get hold of Rug by clicking the envelope next to his name in the top right corner of the Vital page.

Also, if you haven't read it yet, check out doggo's take on Portsmouth FC here. It's a cracking read, and really thorough. Make sure you read it and leave your comments!

Gino's Fact of the Week

A fact about Dr SAF this week: did you know that he claims that he was the fifth best chess player in the world at the age of nine? A keen chess enthusiast, he is currently president of the UAE Chess Federation!

Gino's Teaser

Easy one this week:

Which teams in League One next season are ex-Premiership teams? Don't look, it's cheating! I want to see how many you can name off the top of your head....
