Mokoena's agent talks...again

Mokoena's agent talks...again

Aaron Mokoena, well his agent Ivan Modia, continues to talk up the South African and why he wanted to play for Pompey and Paul Hart...

'Apparently' all that the 28-year-old now needs is his work permit to be renewed, which I would suggest would not be a problem, and then his 3-year contract will be rubber stamped and he will begin training next week - according to The News anyway!

Still we hear nothing official on this matter though...

I am not doubting the fact that we have now signed him, subject to this work permit, and do not doubt that it was Hart and Peter Storrie doing this deal but I am still optimistic that this was done at the time with it very much looking like he would remain in charge, as it is I am sticking to the opinion that the Hart talk is a smokescreen.

That said, 'if' Hart remains our manager, so be it, that will be the case so you have to back him and the side, and I will do that - we all will!

As far as Mokoena himself is concerned, I - and many others - made no secret of the fact that we were unhappy with his signing when it was first announced by the South African captain some 2-months ago, but we must give him a chance too, right?

The thing that annoys me most of is the fact that he is another very defensively minded player with little, or no, offensive thoughts to his game or ability, although to be fair the guy is no mug - just do not expect anything creative from him!

To be fair I am convinced that we would get nothing less than 100% from the guy whenever he played and wherever he played, but I would just hope that his arrival would not be for him to play as part of a midfield with the likes of the players we already have as what this currently contains is frightening! Throw another defensive midfielder, with no creative ability, and we will struggle big time. Used as a central defender, maybe so, as he can play this role...

Whatever though, hopefully this mystery is going to be resolved next week - at least it will be another body, eh!

If we are doing things on the cheap, I could see him as a replacement for Distin. If he is destined for midfield, perhaps those in charge are expecting more departures from there.

unfortunately it's not the sort of signing to add quality to a very weak team.

Yes, an odd signing by all accounts but as you say Rug it's an addition to a threadbear team and he does have some prem experience.

Rug, he is mainly a centre back. He will replace Distin as he seems to be going too. I did not like him much playing for South Africa in the Confeds Cup. He looks shaky at times. But, another international, and another captain.

I think it says a lot for a player when he claims that Paul Hart was the reason he chose Pompey.. I wonder how many other options he had or whether he'd actually heard of Paul Hart before February last year .. Still if he's attracting players of this quality who are we moan .. .. But how DO you pronounce his surname?... Everytime I try people start dancing around the street .... dum, diddy, dum, diddy do the Mok-o-ena.. dum, diddy, dum, diddy dance the Mok-o-ena.. dum, diddy, dum, diddy chant the Mok-o-ena.. HEY.. Chesterfield's O'Shea targeted

Although so far Pompey have had two bids turned down for Chesterfield's O'Shea. Will, assuming another bid (as it's expected) is made, it be third time luck for the Blues?

It wasn't Real Madrid but Bristol City isn't bad!

Contrary to what I just wrote (muppet that I am) this isn't at Fratton this is at Ashton Gate with Pompey heading to Bristol City on Saturday 30th July, with a 3pm kick-off.

Liverpool goalie keen on Pompey return

Will he get this chance though? I think we could quite safely say he'll not be in the Liverpool 1st team next season and Pompey want a goalie so could this be Ryan Fulton...
