Crouch now in talks with Sunderland?

Sky sports is reporting that Peter Crouch has arrived in the North East for talks with Sunderland about a move with it 'believed' a fee has been agreed - click here.

They also report that his agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed to 'sky sports news sources' that 'his client was set to hold talks with Sunderland boss Steve Bruce.'

I honestly do not know what to think or make of this.

Some say Crouch has been pushed into this, others say he has jumped - who knows? We know even less if the club tells us nothing...

Troubling is the best description. Still think it represents good business (he gets paid 70k / week), but sends out ALL of the wrong signals. Really hope it doesn't happen, but can see some rationalse for this - a rationale I can't see for the Distin rumour.

How on earth can it make good business sense and send out all the wrong signals Pompeytim? It can only be one or the other. We're playing in the EPL, and that's a business that needs assets/quality to stay trading.

crouchy showed more committment to us that distin last season tho, so for me i know who i would rather see go...

from a 'business' point of view, and its a worry that business is how we are seeing things - tho i hope not, is it really such a good deal on crouch tho? selling him for around what we paid - all we save is wages, but at least wages, in my thinking, went on someone that gave 100% all of the time. business wise, distin on a free sold for 3m would make more sense, no?

If Hart is being installed as manager then Crouch leaving makes all the sense in the world. I wouldnt want to spend another season playing up front on my own with only Hughes and Mullins for support either.

Not bothered about Davis going! Sorry to see Glen go but I don't blame him & wish him well. Distin was brilliant but has lost the plot & needs to move on. Crouch going will leave me very miffed.

why not, were fending off offers from milan and madrid for the pair :-)
seriously tho, i wouldnt want crouchy to play up front again alone and nor would he...

Another problem is,when looking at signing new players, when they see who they might have for teammates they will probably say ********* to that I will go elsewhere

Why are we able to sell in the middle of a takeover but not buy? surely there's no difference?

If James stays he's going to be very busy next season. Maybe SAF will rebrand PFC to "Rag, Tag and Bobtail"

I agree with you matt, I suspect ( cos Spanish press said so so must be true) he's off cos of Hart's tactical decision making but more importantly he can't stand Storrie; which is not entirely fair. Anyway he's not gone yet; what worries me more is the signing of 5 or less players from SAF's mate ( but it was in the news)

If we can buy quality to replace him then maybe we can let him go. But I agree with SUAC51 and the way we seem to be going we'll be lucky to field a team of reserves! But I'm still thinking positively and think the doc will do us proud.

Not one to panic or take "news" reports seriously, but starting to think we may be in trouble. It would be expecting an awful lot to stay up next season if a) Crouch is gone b) Hart remains manager and has a limited purse. To "stabilize" any project, you have to rely on a structure's strengths before buttressing its weaknesses. If you have no strengths then the whole thing is apt to collapse. Hope I'm wrong, but the signals about limited initial cash infusion by Al Fahim keep being put out there.

Just had a thought(god thats dangerous),what if SAF has 2 sets of plans for us,one where hart is in charge and getting in some cheapies and relying on harts experiance with youth,OR one where he says he wants hart in charge prior to the takeover to get the fans response, after all he said he would listen to us,see that we dont like it and appoint a manager who could be given a maybe 25-50 million pound transfer chest to see us through the season, then consolidate and take stock next year with more time and planning.

jason i love the idea but cmon this is pompey were talking about here. hes not worth 3 billion hes worth 3 bob. here are some rules ive made up ... rule 1: in the epl dont do business with overseas buyers, especially those only interested in assets (property only) rule 2: if youre going to say that you will listen to the fans, then at least listen to them before committing to a manager that hasnt got the full "backing" from the fans rule 3: dont do business with south african banks, in fact, any african banks, south american banks, american banks, australasian banks, asian banks and any banks east of germany/italy rule 4: taking into consideration rule 3, any banks chosen must be specifically aware that you are in fact the owner of a multi million pound business in the EPL - the best football league in the world - and that its 100% likely that you can conform to paying off debt (even if that means waiting until September to get Sky money) rule 5: taking into consideration rules 1,2,3 and 4 do not sell youre prized assets (players) unless you receive an obscene bid, its written in the contract that they can go to a CL club or you have found someone better who is cheaper to buy and has less wages to command rule 6: taking into consideration rule 5 (which includes 1,2,3 and 4 anyway) if you are going to ignore rule 5 then do NOT sell to ruddy teams in the EPL that you are fighting for positions with rule 7 watch Newcastle FC Season 2008/9: We are not great actually! on DVD and see just how we are copying the geordies ... rule 8 if you ignore the rules above then you WILL zero out your investment! Good day =)

Gutted to see Crouchie leave and also can't help being concerned about our squad - not only do we not have enough quality players left - we don't have enough players left! Come on Al Fahim, you want to buy a premier league club - don't relegate them first season, what's the point of that? It's tough to survive in the prem, and right now we don't have what it takes. I have to keep believing this will change once the takeover's done.

I see the logic behind this. We have Nugent and utaka - both of which have consistently prooven themselves to be top class centre forwards over the past two years since they signed, so in all honesty, crouch isn't that important to us. Oh, and we will also likely have Kanu, who is the real work horse of the team. that kid never stops running does he?

Crouch will not be playing up front next season. Hart will have to change tactics, otherwise he will be celebrating Christmas watching Xmas Staff on TV. I believe that Crouch will stay. We can sell but not buy, yes. That is because at the moment, the club belongs to Sascha and he is only bothered to sell, and does not care anymore. Simple!
