Done deal by 24th? Lets wait and see

A done deal by Friday 24th is the 'exclusive' from Arabianbusiness.com today...

So, it is being said that Dr SAF will be in England to conclude his deal then, with it 'claimed' that 'confidential documents seen by Arabian Business show that Dr Al Fahim, who launched his bid for the Premier League club on May 27, has now agreed terms with the club' and he will 'meet with club boss Peter Storrie Thursday evening in London, with the takeover likely to be officially announced on July 24, after the Premier League has completed its "Fit and Proper" persons test.'

'If' this is true then this is something, well more than something it would be fantastic as that would give us 3-weeks to prepare for the new season and more than a month of the transfer window to work with!

But, and here is the but on this, my concerns start with further 'claims' of a '48 page document entitled "Portsmouth: The New Era", with it also understood that current manager Paul Hart will be kept in charge of the club', and that worries me...

The suggestion is that as Paul Hart knows the club better than anyone we could bring in he makes a good option - well, this depends which way you look at it, is this 'cheap' or 'puppet' material?

In my thinking, or is it hoping, I just hope this is being said to play down other 'options' we could go for...

It was also said that the prospective new owner will be at Pompey for all homes game until the end of 2009 and the proposed fans meetings will happen, and on Friday nights before home games, with this source saying: 'As we move forward, the importance of Portsmouth fans, and their views on the future direction of the club, cannot be underestimated. We must have a constant dialogue with them, and begin this process from Day One.'

Plans are 'said' to be well underway for the new season with Dr SAF confident enough the deal will be done that it is 'team sheets' rather than 'account sheets' that he is now looking at: 'we have moved to the next phase, which is preparing for the season ahead.'

Rugs thoughts

All sounds fantastic 'in theory', but as we all know theory and practise are all to often different things...

A price still has to be agreed with Sacha, this much has been confirmed by the club and Dr SAF's people - unless this has now happened?

The premier league of course need to tick that box on the 'fit and proper' test, and it is my understanding that the premier league still cannot put a date on when they will, and they will, rubber stamp this.

To be fair Arabianbusiness.com, and other Arabian news outlets, are well sourced - so this could well have come direct from Dr SAF and/or his people, but I would say this is more what 'they are aiming for' as opposed to what is 'concrete in as much to happen'. This could well be a realistic timescale but time will tell, so I would not be taking too much from it, nor would I totally doubt it.

As always, as hard as it is, retain that patience and lets see what happens! It will happen though, just maybe not by the dates claimed today...

Great to get some clarifaction, im tired of living in the dark.. So Paul's the manager, hopefully he will look to attack a bit more.. I like the Doctors attitude towards the fans and the club.. hopefully we can add a few more signings before KO.

nodster the thing we have to remember is 'this is not concrete'... for me, this is what the 'hopes' are, for many things, they are not 'certs' - this is something we have to remember, this is not 'official'...

i still 'hope' that hart will not be the next manager and this is just a smokescreen!

I wonder if this is the Doctor or his people secretly giving us information? He has appeared to have a fairly decent attitude to the fans, but of course cannot publicly come out with this information himself until the deal is complete. I agree with you Rug, I just don't feel Hart is the man we need to progress in the Premiership. My expectations for next season under him would be middle of the bottom half, but with someone else I believe we could push into the top ten like we did a few seasons ago.

like i say in the article, and i do think its worth reading to get to what i am saying, arabian outlets are well sourced so i 'suspect' this is what Dr SAF/his people are telling them but i also 'suspect' this is what they hope to happen, not what could happen - for me, this is the plan they are working to...hopefully it comes off!

Well I guess at the end of the day this is encouraging! I'm not going to get too excited, but it is "good" news about pompey that seems pretty rare these days. As fatty Barlow and his gay team sing "have a little paitients" :)

The thing I find and even more so lately is,we havent had any good news for the last 2 months,and all the bad press we read we have come to accept as basically how things are at the moment,bad,but when we get an article,which is by no means an official statement,then we think great this whats going to happen now so things are looking up for us. Unfortunately as with the bad and negative stuff thats being printed,why should we believe the glimmer of positive stuff aswell,they are not official statements,(there havent been too many off them either) so as always we just wait and see whats coming.And I still dont think crouch will go,not unless the new manager has deemed him surplus and wants his own way off playing with different forwards. Mancini,an Italian who doesnt play hit and run,the Bilic name has gone Quiet,but could that be why Nico is so happy to stay? Paul Hart,we struggled at times with crouch up on his own,so is he looking for a Benjani type? Just my way of thinking at the moment and probably a load of waffle so I just wait and spend another day eagerly checking Vital and news now.

I remain cynically optimistic. Hopeful that there is some substance in the article but not at all enthused by the thought of Hart taking the reigns. Don't think the Hart stuff is a smokescreen Rug, I just can't see them putting something like that in writing if it wasn't going to happen. That would really put the cat among the pigeons. I tend to agree with nodsters post in the forum, they've just run out of time.

Read somewhere that mancini asid no to the deal cos we weren't going to be spending much money this year. I suppose it makes sense to put Hart on charge for a year on Storrie's recommendation, which keeps us up, and then next year get a name that will attract some stars. I don't know, I'm fed up trying to second guess it all. Why can't Pompey just come out and tell us what is going on.

The article says 'likely' to be the 24th.. Now people don't (as we as Pompey fans usually do) turn this around and say, as the 24th comes and goes that Petrer Storrie told us it was gonna be the 24th of July.. and he is an outright liar.. remember these words are from a newspaper ... The club will not announce anything until the deal is done and in reality I don't see whythey would.... Would you expect the chairman of a large bank to come out and inform the media of whats going down with a deal he is doing ?? .. Keep the faith ... keep clam .. It will happen and we'll all forget this emotional nonsense in time... Chill Pills all round Landlord

Well I bugger off abroad for 10 days hols on 29th July, bleedin' well hope it is sorted by then. As for Hart in charge, I can understand the continuity bit, but after that, he has little appeal. I can't see Hart having the carisma to attract great players.

All very encouraging but I do feel that Hart would be the wrong appointment. I don't think Paul Hart is going to inspire anybody to come here either Rug. It will be money only as apart from money a part. According to Arabian news the less money spent on managers the more available for players; can't fault that thinking but I don't want to be playing a loan David Nugent or Subotic or Utaka up front, according to the Spanish press last week it seems that isCrouch is fed up of.

I am still gonna keep waiting and not say too much till all is done and dusted. I have noticed though on the official site that we have signed seven more youngsters and 5 of the youth team have been given pro contracts. Maybe we will be seeing a lot more young faces in the starting line up next season.

Well to be fair, I suppose we were warned not to expect too much this year once Saffy had taken over. Not too much seems to be what we are getting. I got no problem with that as long as we stay up. Could be much more fun, as well. Our lot where I sit don't start screaming til its all going wrong anyway, so might be a lot livelier!

Arabianbusiness.com were the site that broke the original news of Mr Al-Fahim's buyout, the News and others got it from them, this site seems the most reliable so I'm inclined to go with them. The 24th looks feasible, as to PH staying as manager the scumpties gave Wotte a years contract and a week later fired him, the same could well happen to PH, at the moment he is needed to get us through pre-season, if we've got any players left to manage that is.

I think we need to be realistic. Without the takeover we are doomed. With the takeover we might have a year of consolidation, but compared to the alternative it is a good option. For once I am glad to see someone taking the club and taking a sensible, slow and considered approach. But all of that said, this story could just be a steaming pile of poo, so we'll just need to wait and see!!

Rug is right about this date being what they are aiming for - as for who the manager will be, we just have to wait and see what happens after the deal is eventually done. Tim's right, without the takeover we are doomed, just as long as we are left with a squad that's worthy of competing in the prem this season - I'm sure Dr SAF doesn't want to be owning a championship side come May 2010 - so there must be some new signings coming in.

In the TIMES yesterday, they report that SAF's people have opened up talks with Slaven Bilics agent to seek interest in Managing Pompey. How does that stack up with Hart staying?
