Give Belhadj a go on the left wing

'Give Nadir Belhadj more of a chance this season, and as a left winger', not my vote, yours - although these findings from moley2's poll are thoughts that I do agree with to be honest, although I would also look to give another a chance too...

Belhadj looked 'lost' for the majority of the time he played for us after his partnership with Armand Traore was broken up - that was a fantastic pairing! The Herminator had to come in to strengthen us defensively though, even if this nullified the Algerian's attacking ability.

That said the unpredictable Belhadj would then spring into life.

For me getting a full season, well near enough, under his belt will do him good and he should have picked up more of the language by now, which will also help. If we carry on working on his defensive qualities then we 'could' have a left sided Glen Johnson on our hands.

So, all in all I would totally agree that Belhadj as our left winger is the way to go this season, but - and here is the but - I would have Matty Ritchie waiting in the wings to step in as a sub when we can, or even replace him if needed. We must keep Ritchie here this season, and use him, who knows maybe the pair could rub off on each other and 'maybe' even be used as a pairing...

  • What the poll asked - Should Belhadj be given more of a chance next season, if so in what position?

  • How you voted - Left Wing 75%, Leftback 17%, Inside left midfield 5%, Or Benchwarmer 3%, Right Wing 0%, Behind the striker/'s 0%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Well and I think I'm alone (mostly) on this one.. When Belhadj played 'in front' of the left back last season he looked totally lost.. Sure his partnership with Armand was great but Belhadj was the overlapper not the winger.. When he has space in front of him and recieves the ball from a standing start he's just totally inept . As for a 'right sided Glen Johnson'.. perhaps.. well .. maybe not .. Sorry fellas I think you've got this one wrong... But I will say this .. If you want to see Belhadj on the left, where is Niko Kranjcar going to play ?.. oh 'in the hole' .. So we are playing with a lone striker again then are we ? or maybe Niko will play centre midfield in a four ? because he's a great tackler .. (not !).. Umm do you see the problem ?? Belhadj (at best) can only be used as a sub (in place of Kranjcar) or as a left back.. and when it comes to the sub I'd rather see Matt Ritchie and when it comes to the left back I'd rather see Hermann !.. Still according to the papers tomorrow our 'ever delpleting' team will only have 14 players at the start of the season so at least he'll get a game sometime.. maybe he'll play up front with Linvoy.. - I think I'd get my boots out the loft I might get a game come August ;)

Totally agree with the Matt Ritchie thing,Belhadj as exciting as he can be also looked lost for long periods last season, add to the fact he can be quite nonchalent at times aswell. As you say though he has had pretty much a full season behind him so we will see.

I was interested to see what people thought about belhadj which is why I conducted this poll. I feel he is a player that has ability and the pace to trouble defences although like Rug I would also like to see Matty Ritchie on the left. Belhadj, if disciplined, could be a very useful player, especially to bring off the bench against tired defenders. He also has a decent crossing ability which I think is lacking with most of our players. I suppose we'll see next season if he'll play a part?

It's a good ideal, I personally really like him!

As long as he controls his temper.. We can't afford to play with ten men too many times...

I think UK Tony was right when he said he still has a lot to learn!

Aw, he only got sent off once!! Play him every game, he's a right old handful.

Still think you have to play him more at home where he can attack & rarely away as he can't defend. Useful for the last 15-20 mins to run at tired full backs. To be used cleverly rather than regularly!
