'If It's Football, It's Vital'

From the horses mouth...

I have it on good authority that due diligence, despite what is being reported and said - myself included, is not yet complete.

But, and there is almost always a but...

We are in the final throws of this being done and edging ever closer to having that side of the propose takeover complete - everyone on the PFC side of things is confident that this will happen, and not just in an optimistic sense!

The main reason why things seem to be taking so long?

Well, it is not really taking as long as it seems, usually the thing with these takeover deals is they happen during a season and with things going on in the meantime - and the transfer window being closed - you have things to occupy you. As we are in 'the off season' and of course the transfer window is open but we cannot do anything this seems to make it worse, when its not!

As always, we have to remember we are talking a 'multi million pound' investment here - think 'buying a house' and what this entails and multiply that by several hundred and you are getting somewhere near, still way off but near, to the complexity of it, think of all the contracts that need checking through, including small print...

As for Peter Crouch, again contrary to what is being said, Pompey have not put the England international up for sale.

Here is that 'but' again...

As is being reported, big money offers have been received, and it is possible, maybe more than possible, that he will be leaving Fratton again - but not to 'balance any books!'

Again, and to make it clear though Pompey have not put him up for sale, you may well notice the only talk being done is by the clubs interested and mostly his agent, make of this what you will...

Ooh, tasty little tit-bit rug! The DD thing makes sense, we are still on target, it's just that many people were using the 11th as 'judgement day', when in reality it was only a guideline date SAF used when he agreed to attend the AGM. As for Crouch, it's fairly obvious his agent is trying to blow smoke up the tabloids' backsides, but the possibility of him leaving is a tad worrying! To me, players like him, Kranky, Kaboul and Belhadj - yes, Belhadj - could be pivotal to next season's advancements. Yes, advancements - no more negative thinking, the only way is up!

Well done Ruggers I know how cautuious you are in releasing storys unless you have them from reliable sources and in triplicate.. So it's true that DD (as you suspected) hasn't been finalised but hey no need to panic it'll happen I'm sure .. we all just need to focus on the big picture as we have said numerous times between us during the past eight weeks .. As for Crouchy .. well if he goes he goes, it'll be a bit of a blow but life and PFC wil move on.. one player does not make a team..

Excellent Rug, I feel that this rings true as there has been no "official" news as yet. I am just worried about the free transfers we are supposed to be going for. They all seen very 3rd-or worse- rate. All looks a bit Tony Adams/Alain Perrin to me.. not sure i like this new page design, as my words keep disappearing, like the box is bigger that can be seen on screen- i can enlarge/stretch my window but not the page. is this just my mac or is it a common issue

isn't this what "mypompey" said yesterday... not wanting to be rude or anything, but it is an identical story, but a day later... :-)

I am beginning to find this all so emotionally draining! Am remaining very positive, but following this story so closely, every day building myself to hope it will be done, only to see a story like the Crouch story is so very painful! Rug, so right that without the normal hub-bub of a Premier League season in the background days seem like weeks and weeks seem like years! I am going out for the day and won't be checking the internet until tomorrow... well, I'll try to do that anyway!

Carps - I'm sure Rug would have read 'mypompey' but his focus is reporting for Vital .. but that said they have their contacts and we have ours and both sites will decide on when its right to publish.. It's not a race !! And I'm sure Chris (The editor at 'mypompey') & Rug just want to present the news in the best way they see fit... There's bound to be duplication at times afterall both sites are reporting on the same thing !..

Bringing in too many untried prem players smells a bit. Need a solid base of English & experienced prem players. Crouch to Fulham would be a massive kick in the teeth if it happened. Just want Dr SAF in, anything else is just unthinkable.

If SAF has a master plan and it includes Mancini as the Manager, and a string of quality players he has lined up. (Not my words) Then why have we signed Modeste M'Bami on a free. Can't tell me that Mancini has advised us to do that. Answers on a postcars to 'Reggie' Perrin I think!!!

the m'bami rumours stink of hart, which isnt a good sign imo, why hart should be making these decisions is worrying. he is yet again another cdm, to go along side basinas, hughes, mullins, mokeona.........and that looks bad.

Tim, you're not the only one! I am being patient and staying positive, but its going to be such a relief when it all goes through. I would say I'm about 95% confident. But the other 5% does worry about doubts that the press have put in my mind about whether the doc really is everything he says he is, and whether the f&PP test will all be OK. Cos it all failing now this far into pre-season would be such a disaster. But lets concentrate on the 95% confident, and hope its not much longer now. Good news that Crouch is probably staying, I hope so!

Just one more question though, that's really bugging me. Not only did West Ham's takeover go through seemingly instantly (or had it been rumbling on in the background for weeks secretly?) but their new owners didn't have to submit to the 'fit and proper person' test. Why's that then?

Tracyc, same applies to Swiss Billionaire who bought scummerland in 48hours this week. Is it one rule for Pompey and a different one for everyone else?. There was a story that Dave Richards from Premier League was at the meeting with SAF & Storrie in Rome when the purchase was agreed. If that is the case why is fit and proper required now.

thanks for that chix, yep you are right what they do and what we do may well seem similar at times, but there are only so many ways we can write things i guess... we, chris and i, are in contact with each other a fair bit - more so these days - and as i have told him before im abit paranoid about people thinking i copy him, or he i, but like i say, only so many ways things can be done...
i did actually write this article around 1ish on friday after speaking to someone at PFC, but didnt want to publish until i checked they were happy with what i said (not that i was worried about being censored) they were fine but didnt get back to me until i had left for work so couldnt publish until friday night when i got home...
at the end of the day tho just because mypompey publishes something it doesnt mean vital pompey, or visa versa, or other sites cannot/will not either. had i not spoken to anyone at the club about this - and to be fair i first made contact with them about the crouchy is [Edited by rug]

arent the ones that own west ham essentially just a holding company or something that will/are looking to sell when the can? wasnt it either that or administration? i could be wrong.

I think so RUG about WH. However, I also raised questions like Tracy did. Ours seems to be never ending! I hope we will have time to get in some good players before we start, because we will be very short in almost every department.

Yeah I know Carps ... I think as and when the season kick-offs you'll see a difference in style once again if only because ther'll be more to report on and people have different voiews on things that are happening .. with the takeover some are in the 'believe everything you read and get confused' mode whereas some are 'just ignore the paper talk, sit back and wait for something official' mode.. thankfully for my nerves i'm i the latter
