Most feel Mancini will be the next Pompey manager?

'Roberto Mancini will be the next Pompey manager', not my vote, yours - although these findings from Et_tu_Pompeii's poll are thoughts that I kind of want to agree with but do not necessarily agree with to be honest...

Mancini have proven beyond a doubt what he can do in Italy, he has won Serie A titles and competed at the very highest level - one of my concerns is that apart from a brief loan spell with Leicester at the end of his playing career he has no experience of the English game.

That said if you are a quality manager you will be able to manage anywhere, right?

The other concern is that I am not convinced Mancini is actually the man we are going for and still feel that Vahid Halilhodzic is very much in the frame - maybe not as much as it seemed, but I am led to believe that a deal was in place, or just about in place for him? Although that information could prove wrong, and to be honest I hope it does I must admit.

If we got Mancini I would not be disappointed, we will find out soon enough either way...

  • What the poll asked - Who WILL be the next POMPEY manager?

  • How you voted - Roberto Mancini 47%, Slaven Bilic 15%, Vahid Halilhodzic 10%, Somebody else 10%, Sven-Goran Eriksson 9%, The disgraced, cowardly, twitching, Ginger One 4%, Glenn Hoddle 2%, Alan Curbishley 1%, Neil Warnock 1%, Avram Grant 1%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

not my choice (that'd be SGE), and not - in my opinion - the most likely. (that'd be VH... although i'm not too sure on that).

I think that Vahid Halilhodzic was an option when the deal might well have been on the ropes as a "cheaper" alternative. With the papers lambasting Pompey at the time, some may have felt the need for a back up plan. I think this changed about a week ok "Again personal opinion" and at that time with the DD nearer completion and more parties satisfied, negotiations began with Mancini. Like RUG said on friday, there is definately something in the offing. For Mancini to state to Sky sports that he was interested in plying his trade back in the UK is interesting enough to raise an eyebrow. I can not see another Premiership side where a managers job is in the balance. Pompey could quite possibly be his destination. I hope for us all the above is true

pompey going down - well thats what the current poll is saying... come on guys were not that pessimistic about this season are we!
    pompeyrug
I wonder if we may be in the process of trying to poach someone. Also its weird Redknapp is so quiet at Spuds. He's usually telling everyone he's after 10 different players, down to the bones etc. etc. I hate to say it!!
    DarrenOZ
I don't know how we have any idea at all who the next manager will be. Does someone have an inside line? Probably not. It could surely be absolutely anybody! Who put these names into the ring - the club? I don't think so. PUP.
    NorfolknBlue
Yeah you're right Norfolk, it's just gonna have to be wait and see. We've all got our personal favorites and I must admit Mancini wasn't my first choice, not overkeen on SGE either. Who ever it turns out to be we'll all have to get behind him and hope he's a motivator with good man management skills etc etc.. because I don't think this coming season is going to be a picnic, far from it.
    cornypomp
Wait, what? 77% of us think we're going down next season? Nah, I'm not having that, someone's having a laugh......
    powered_by_pies
Can't believe people are that negative, I have got us dwon for a top half finish and with a bit of luck qualification for Europe in 2010-11. Regards manager, none of us know what is in store, but am I the only one to think Coppell could be a good one for us. Passionate, know's his stuff and with budget that he's never had could buy well.??

Wouldn't worry too much about the poll .. These things get 'infected' but very funny (not) people from other sites on Vital and anybody (non members of vital can vote) .. I once nearly had Jimmy Dickinson and Lassana Diarra out voted by Sean Davis as the person who should most represent to letter 'D' in Pompey's A to Z !.... Anyway Mancini ... Not my first choice (that would be SGE) but like Rug I believe that VH is lined up ready for the job .. would I prefer Mancini .. yeah I think so .. Not long now.. the fit and proper test will be passed .. Dr SAF will hold a press conference and announce.............. Paul Hart as Manager !

meh still rather have ranieri personally but tbh i'd just be happy to get the take over done and get anyone in with a half decent managing record lol
    pompeym@
The media's gone beserk with Manicni, Italian press stating he's holding official talks with Pompey - couple that with Storrie's 'Urgent meeting abroad', and I think we may be trying to get our new manager... I'm all for Mancini if he comes, I think he'd be very good, and would work the transfer market quickly and effectively.
    powered_by_pies
Think your right PBP, I think he is there making Mancini our new manager. Although don't prospective managers usually come to the club to become manager, why would we have to pursue him???
    moley2
Unless they didn't want to draw the medias attention to it Moley (lol) - I'd be happy with Mancini (over VH) but would still really prefer Sven.... Still anything is better than Paul Hart and his boring tactics ... well ok maybe not Tony Adams.. Maybe it's time to get of my Paul Hart soapbox .. When he's back in the Academy I start bleating on about how wonderful is is ... just like I used to.. anyway I'm rambling..

a mere '55%' now fancy us to go down - as has been said tho 'visitors' are 'boosting' the going down thoughts methinks as we cannot seriously think we are going to go down...

the mancini 'links' are again growing, it will probably be another no go tho...
    pompeyrug
Hm .. the Quay jumped the gun the other night with the story that DD was complete BUT they are reporting Storrie & Sacha & Dr Saf in talks in Paris, and also with Mancini - it might suggest the DD's done and a revised deal has been put on the table, and they feel confident enough to talk to their choice for new manager. Maybe? Also as Pies says, the Italian press have it as well. Its about time something happened after all.
    tracyc
mancini would be a top quality manager with lots of experience in a top leauge and what excites me about him is hes won things and must have some good contacts in italy for players.. didnt he sign viera from arsenal ?? few days yet and we should know something hopefully by the wkend so we can celebrate with a bbq
    pompeyhussler
as long as it's not rainning Hussler ;) .. Yep the stories are mounting and I'm starting to semi-believe this one.

74% ?!!! Thats insane, will no one show any faith in pompey ? I have a deja vu feeling while writing this, we are meant to be the most passionate fans, we have a reputation for that. But it seems we are becoming fair weathered fans who are only happy when we are winning things or making big signings. Clubs have rough times. All of them do. How about a showing little faith ?
    tim_oates_pfc
welcome to vital pompey tim_oates_pfc to be fair, and as has been pointed out by others, what you have to remember is 'guests' and no doubt other clubs' fans can and also do vote on these polls - so they are not always a true reflections of what is felt, well as true as polls can get...
we could almost be assured 'if' this was ran in the forum where you only get the one vote we wouldnt be see 'go down' as the winner - this is why i am doing a team selection based in the forum as we will get a more accurate assumption of what we think...
    pompeyrug
An Italian managing England. Another at Chelsea & at West Ham. WBA going there too. Hey, why not us?
