Hart in charge...for now

So, it all stats tomorrow, the build up to the 2009/10 season begins to kick into life for Pompey as pre-season training begins.

At this point in time it is going to be a very depleted 1st team squad, threadbare even, and I would suspect a good number of the 'kids' will be joining this as 1st team players - if they are good enough then lets keep them in that bracket this season eh!

Sol Campbell is not looking like he will be there and although I have said that I would not mind seeing him renew his contract, in all honesty I am not so sure I do anymore? As it is I do not think he will now anyway, he seemed to make that pretty clear...

As for Kanu, of course he will not be there, he will drag out his contract talks as long as he can - The King does not do pre-season does he!

The News also reports that Aaron Mokoena will not be in training as he is still requiring a work permit - something I have no doubt he will get, but until I hear anything official its not a done deal.

The man to 'oversee affairs' will be Paul Hart.

At this present moment in time it is still highly unlikely that he will be given the job on a permanent basis - something I am not disappointed about I must admit - but credit where it is due to the guy as it is said that he will continue to step in to take training until the takeover is done and a new man appointed, hats off to him!

Hart will not be joined by his sidekick Brian Kidd though, he is 'said' to still be on his holidays. Although I am not convinced that he will return to the club at all, which is a shame as his coaching qualities will be missed, but you never know what can happen...

Blimey, lets hope Harty doesn't want a quick 5 aside, we won't have enough players!

This is the first time I've logged onto this site so hi to everyone who regularly posts. I live in Adelaide in Australia and have been a lifelong Pompey fan and season ticket holder from 1985-1989 before emigrating. Enough of me, I form one agree with pompey rug that Hart is not the long term solution to the job but at least most of the remaining players seem to respect the guy so he's the perfect person to hold the post until the takeover is completed.

hi darren - good to seeya on here. Yup, Hart should NOT be a permanant appointment, BUT, he's the only man we have at the moment even half qualified to do the job. so i'm not surprised.
pompeycarpet
It will be interesting who gets the job in the long run. Reading other posts Mancini seems to be the favourite with a fair few on this site. Bilic/Eriksson and the like have obviously also been linked but I have a feeling they are keeping the name of the new boss closely under wraps and it might be a complete surprise when they finally name him.
DarrenOZ
Yeah Hi Darren.... I did have to smile when you wrote "they are keeping the name of the new boss closely under wraps" you're probabably right. I'm just hoping it's not the name that none of us can spell or pronounce!
cornypomp
Ha ha cornypomp we can all spell Redknapp!
Nice to have you onboard Darren, you will find quite a few more people from Aus on here! Nodster is the first that springs to mind.
As for training, this week it wil be all about deffensive line up's! ha ha

welcome Darren, yet another new face, which is fantastic to see - keep getting involved...

ive got alot of respect for hart, and this has grown with him agreeing to carry on for the time being - still wouldnt want him as our next manager tho as he is too important to the youth side of things, plus he isnt really a premier league manager is he, lets be honest!
pompeyrug
Just started a thread bout it then noticed this, here it is anyway. http://www.portsmouth.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=7330&posts=1&mid=66734#M66734

no worries Mad, the more the merrier, gives people the chance to talk about things in all areas...

We owe Hart a lot, I know he wasn't popular but he's stepped in to do whatever is asked, and is still doing, much the way that Joe Jordan used to do before he followed twitchy up the road. Would like to see Brian Kidd still involved, but I guess its up to whoever the new manager is, which looks like it might be Mancini at the moment.

PS Hi DarrenOz and welcome!

Will be a case of getting the cones fit I suppose!!

Welcome OZ. I have always been very optimistic about Hart, even if many people argued about him. I hope we will get a new manager soon, but I won't panic if he had to be given the job, which seems very remote at this stage.

Great for Hart to hold the fort until the 'new men' arrive. Some continuity doesn't hurt. Hart is best placed to make the academy work & enjoy the glory that was keeping us up!
