'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Linvoy deal confirmed

News that Linvoy Primus was going to be staying with Pompey for at least another year was pretty much common knowledge but this has now been confirmed on the Pompey Site.

Linvoy has officially signed a new 1-year contract.

This contract will be as a 1st team footballer - although if we see him in the 1st team much, if at all I would be surprised and mainly helping the youngsters in the reserves is what I see happening - as well as an ambassadorial and advisory role off-the-pitch: 'it's going to be: 'If you need some help, call Linvoy'.

'I'm going to be working with the younger players on and off the pitch - I'm going to be a role model for them I guess, helping them to achieve and reach their potential - giving them markers to achieve.

'I'm not going to be coaching them - that's Guy Whittingham's job and the manager's job - I'm going to be more of an advisor, more of a mentor for them.

'I'll be spending a lot of time with them - although I'll still be with the first team. And at the same time I'm also going to be helping different departments at the club, like player liaison, media and community.

'It's kind of what I've been doing already but it's going to be an ambassadorial role, a pastoral role, and I feel that I'm going to be able to bring something to these departments.

'I'm really looking forward to it. It's something I want to do and it's something that's new to the club, so it's an exciting time.'

There is no better person, or more deserving a person, for this type of role than Linvoy, and what a role model to look up to eh!

I could go on all day quoting him from what he told the Pompey Site, how he has thanked those that have played a part in his decade long stay with Pompey, how he appreciates this, the club and the fans but I would imagine I have no need as we would have all seen that - and to be honest we do not need to read it to know it is how he feels and what his sincerely means!

I am delighted to see him confirmed as having at least another year with us, he will almost certainly without a shadow of a doubt - surely - call time on his career next summer, get the testimonial he richly deserves and then focus purely on the ambassadorial and advisory roles in the future, then again this is Linvoy we are talking about so writing him off could be a mistake...

Having met Linvoy several times all I can add is that nobody deserves this more!! The club have not had such a great ambassador since James Dickinson MBE!!

This is brilliant news, Linvoy is a Pompey legend and deserved this new contract.
PompeyFcMad
Pompey legend, hope he stays at the club for years to come and gives the youngsters someone to look up to. He's a model pro and a brilliant example to how a football player should act on and off the pitch.

Awful news. What a farce! Just kidding :P It's wonderful news, of course, and utterly deserved.

Optimus is a living Legend... One year I reckon we should pay him for the rest of his life..

Not a lot I can add really to all the above comments other than I'm really pleased for Linvoy. A damn good human being and servant of PFC. Long may he continue to be our leading footballing statesman...

Agree with what everyone else has said, he is a true Pompey legend and, playing or not, I hope he stays part of the club for many years to come.
