What I would love at Pompey...

What I would love at Pompey...

I would imagine that most have seen The News' Dear Sulaiman, here's who we'd love to see at Pompey?

If not check out the link above...

Those selecting worked on these categories:

£££ - Money no object: The world-class stars Pompey could realistically buy if they were to rival the spending power of Manchester City.

££ - Splash the cash: Players in the price bracket of around £10m, like the ones the Blues have bought in recent years such as Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.

£ - Bargain buy: Cheeky deals for youngsters, talent from lower divisions and abroad, and stars coming to the end of their contracts.

Neil Allen (News chief sports writer), Jordan Cross (News writer), Steve Wilson (News writer), Andy Awford, Vince Hilaire and Basher Benfield (season ticket holder) selected sides - which were interesting I would say.

In all honesty until the deal is 100% done and we know what to kind of expect, even in a 'fantasy' kind of way I am finding it hard to think about signings that much to be honest! Although, you know what the main ingredients that I look for are? I will tell you anyway, even if they may well be naive in this day and age?

Dr SAF here is what I want to see at Pompey...

* Players that are committed.
* Players that will always give nothing less than 100% for the shirt, the club and fans.
* Players that will retain these virtues even if things go belly up!
* Players that will show some form of loyalty - which we need to show them too.
* Players that will entertain me for the money it costs.

Find me - I am reluctant to say 'us' as not all might agree - players that can fit into these categories and I will be happy :-)

I think its very interesting that these people feel we have any chance of luring players like Luis Fabiano and Xabi Alonso to the club, 'cos i dont!

would like to see more of the popular "loan before you buy" deals where we take fringe/young players from the top teams in the top leagues ... belhadj/traore/GJ type deals. i think it benefits us as were not commiting 3 years of wages to someone who will sit on the bench, if they want a place at pompey they will work their backside off until the deal is done. will be good for the youngsters too as we can see who really is a hot prospect and who is overhyped. dont think well get any *** people for at least a few seasons - you need chumps league (at least europa!!) to lure in big players. and i dont really want to spend a ridic amount of money, were a frugal club - no need to change that!

We need left and right fullbacks, two center backs, holding midfielder, play makers, right winger, and goal scorers: Joe Cole (Chelski), Michael Johnson (Citeh), Micah Richards (Citeh), Edin Dzeko (Wolfsburg), Eidur Gudjohnsen (Barcelona), Steven Taylor (New Utd), Darren Gibson (Man Utd), Wheater (Midds), David Bentley (Spurs) - Bilic as manager. He's smart, knows the prem and has watched the best players in the world for the last 4 years.

On the off chance of Dr SAF reading this (you never know! :D ), i really hope that once he has taken the helm at FP, he goes straight out and tries to sign Landon Donovan from La Galaxy. Just the kinda player pompey could do with. Also going for a long-shot here, but Park Ji-Sung from Man Utd would be nice! (very long shot) & Richard Dunne from Citeh.

Must admit I read the article and got bored half way through it - I'm a tad bored with (what is becoming) an expectation that he (Dr Saf) is gonna spend millions day one. He has already made it quite clear that that is exactley what he is NOT gonna do, so why The News run such tripe and raise everybodies expectation is beyond me - They should be calming people down not building them up to be dissapointed.. Fabiano and Alonso !! yeah right why not make a bid for Torres as well FFS ... On the other end of the scale I see Danny Mills mentioned ..Jeez Basher you should be ashamed of yourself my friend Why oh why would we want a player that three championship teams turned away (Hull, Charlton & Derby).. Thank God for Vital Pompey.. at least there is some sense here !

The chances are we won't see any of the above brought in for the new season...but there's no harm in wishing is there. I'd settle for Richard Dunne, Micha Richards and of course Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
