Crouch off to Spurs, Sunderland, Fulham or Milan?

It is being 'claimed' by The Independent that Fulham have joined the chase for Peter Crouch and are ready to launch a £15m bid for the striker...as well as matching his £70,000 per week wages, although at the same time it also appears as they the claims are that the wages could be an issue...

Sunderland are another club 'said' to be interested, and have been reported as such for some time, along with of course Spurs, but yesterday the 'rumblings' where that it was the mighty Milan that wanted to take him to Italy?

According to The Independents 'report' they claim that the Milan interest in genuine...Abbey would love that...

Although at the same time they also now claim that 'the takeover is in serious doubt', so I am not sure how much water the Crouch to Fulham, let alone Milan talk does actually hold as the takeover is not in doubt...I certainly do not believe it is, well sure as hell hope not!

Ok, lets just say we did get offered £15m for Crouch, what we did with it 'would probably' tell us a lot.

Admittedly £15m would be a very good offer, so turning it down from a 'business' point of view would be hard, but I would become seriously concerned if we cashed in!

That is when I would have doubts about the takeover, which I am not at the mo, as for me if we sold another of our most valuable assets, 'good business or not', this would set alarm bells ringing big time...

right...time will tell if we belong in the championship freddya - if after 38 games this season were in the bottom 3 we deserve this, if not then i do not know how anyone can claim after several years of premier league football we deserve this, so jog on...

I think we will find out more about the takeover in the next couple of weeks. If the Al-Fahim thing doesn't happen then Crouchy will be sold and a bid of around 15M would be taken. Lets hope Dr SAF can convince the authorities that he is Fit and Proper!

problem is 'if' the takeover doesnt happen then clubs will know we have to sell so we wouldnt get offered 15m again for crouchy would we?
next week 'should' be the deciding week for us...fingers crossed!

Oh, it's really hotting up now. The market speculation is in full swing, and boy are we gonna be part of that speculation. Even Sol's meant to be making a "PLEA" to move to Sunderland of all places. We are definitely going to have to hold our nerve over the next couple of weeks, because without doubt the press are going to sell the whole team from under us...

I have to say I think this is just paper talk on our part (Fulham), don't think we have the cash to be offering 15M for one player, but if we did I wouldn't mind seeing him in a white shirt. He looks so ungainly but his goal scoring record speaks for it self, top player.

15m is a good price for Crouch either way, but doubt it is a real story. There are lots of column inches to fill each day. I'm still confident that the takeover will proceed next week. These guys just don't shout about every thing they are doing, like Sasha. Probably the best way, even if we do end up sweating on it!

Rug, I agree we would have to take less than 15M for Crouchy if the takeover doesn't happen. Has anyone noticed how quiet Jamie's Dad has been in terms of speculation and signing players so far which is unlike him.

I can't see Fulham winning this. They have one good season in what was a very below par prem. They pinch eighth & think they are Real Madrid all of a sudden. Crouchy going to Spurs is a possible & horrible thought. Though the lure of giants like AC Milan is an interesting thought, PC may take some time to settle there & that could affect his form in a World Cup year? If he was to go, it may the player that decides!

whats your point bluedr? are you suggesting something? what worries me, on another matter, is that the indepth fit and proper persons test is meant to last 2 weeks, with that in mind this takeover may end up happening at the beginning of august, if the 11th of july was meant to be believed. or do you think that perhaps the dd has finished and were already going though the f & p tests?

ruffcider, I'm just wondering why he has been so quiet in the market which is not his mantle, he's normally trying to buy everyone! As for the F & P test, I'll not declare my hand at the moment but I believe that this may prove to be an issue over the next couple of weeks. I hope I am wrong!

I can't see how he will fail the Fit and Proper Person's test if he's the Ambassador of Good Will for the United Nations.... I'm sure they have more stringent rules in THAT position! Plus they didn't say it would take 2 weeks, they said they have allotted 2 weeks to do the tests...so it may end up taking less than a week. I also find it amusing that Newcastle think they will sell their club next week.... do they not need to go through due diligence? I'm sure their Malaysian consortium will have to go through Fit and Proper Persons test...and there is more people to go through there, at least we just have one guy... Dr SAF!

Many people wont like me for this but I would let Crouch go for 15m. H e in my view does not fit the current style of the premiership with teams all looking to play 4-5-1, and will probably struggle to get into the England team in the next couple of years as Capello seems to like a variation of the same formation. Go to Italy Crouchy, just make sure that they don't nickname you Spagetti Boy for being so tall and thin!

I dont buy any of it to be honest. We cant buy players at the moment, we are in transition at the moment, we appear to be selling or offloading at the moment, and its frustrating the papers more than the fans at the moment, as they are not getting the desired response from PompeyGate and lack other dirt to dish on us. So ignor it and take satisfaction that the journalists are not happy lol

I was surprised when I heard about the Milan link... but I actually think he will do well over in Italy with his style... only time will tell if this is not more media bull*****.

The problem about selling Crouch is not because we cannot survive without him, because we can do very much, but thing is, that if sell another top class player (forming the category are Campbell, James, Krancjar, Crouch and Distin) we will end up very naive when it comes to attract other top players. Since Campbell is about to move on, if we lose Crouch we will be in seriuos trouble. Besides that, he love to play for Pompey and can inspire us to some form of 'going up' next season. I just hope SAF has the pen ready to sign next week.

If he goes to Milan, he might become another Bierhoff. Do you remember the golden boy scoring at Wembley in 96? Yes, very similar to him. I won't let him go!!

I'm with Sneakay, I'm afraid. He is very hard to fit into a team because he needs all the right type of players. Basically, unless you've got a Defoe, an Owen, or possibly a Vassell (not a big fan, personally) you're going to struggle to find a good partner for him, and that's not counting the right style of midfielders and the fact that he can't play up front on his own. That puts you at a severe disadvantage against the big four. Who can play two up against them? If anyone is offering 15m, I would take it. We could certainly find a more adaptable striker for that money.

It's the same old talk thats been going on for months now, our top players are always linked with moves away. Even more so now we're in the middle of a takeover. Hold tight til next week and we'll see what happens.

The papers have left us alone for a week or two, so it couldn't last too long, could it. As for the takeover, my understanding was that dd is due to finish at the end of next week, then ONE week for the league stuff, fit & proper person and all that. Also I'm not the first to point out that Dr SAF wouldn't have gone through all this without being certain he would pass the fit & proper person test. Oh, and Crouchie MUST stay!
