Bring us Owen!

Bring us Owen!

'Pompey should sign Michael Owen', not my vote, yours - although these findings from PompeyRitam's poll are thoughts that I do agree with...

Yep, I know the guy has had terrible injury problems in recent years and I know it is a 'risk' but for me, despite all this injury problems, you just have to look at his goals per game played ratio to know that he still knows where the net is!

Staying fit is Owen's biggest problem but 'if' he could do this we would be onto a winner as he will not get extortionate wages, teams just are not going to do this given his past history, paying heavily in appearance and goal bonuses is what most would look to do I would think?

I seriously think that he would sign if we approached, the major problem that we seem to have is being in a position to actually offer him a deal! At this point in time we cannot offer the 'free agent' anything...

Yep, Crouch and Owen would do the business methinks!

  • What the poll asked - Which striker should we buy? (who makes sense and is worth the money)

  • How you voted - Owen 37%, Martins 27%, Someone else.... 22%, Fortune 9%, Benzema 4%, No need...we have the striking force... 1%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Owen???? No chance, out of contract & no club - that says it all. The football world disagree with you! Maybe if he had a clause that he didn't paid if he was injured (which he's never agree to). How about we take all the money we'd pay him to the casino instead & put it all on red. If it comes in then we could get a less injury prone stiker if not, it was still a better gamble!

Although I'm a long time admirer of Owen and have said so in the forums, the risk is substantial. There are a lot of if's... Yes, we do seem to have rejuvenated a few washed up players careers, and it would be wonderful if Owen came to us and this happened. But even if he remained injury free, has he got the pace and split second timing/thinking that made him the player he was in his early career? I think not. I'd like to be proved wrong. I really would, because at the end of the day his name still carries weight and to see him scoring goals for Pompey and maybe catching Capello's eye would be brilliant. I was going to vote for him in the poll but didn't. I voted for "someone else" because a vote for Owen on my part would have been driven by sentiment and not logic. There are better players out there.

Yeah I was one who voted yes to Owen. I didn't realise how many games he actually played for the Toons, I had the impression he only played about 8 or 9 games all season, but he actually played a fair bit more and his goal to game ratio is still pretty impressive. Another bonus with him is that he links up well with Crouchie in the big guy little guy scenario. You never know, different training regime and he may stay fit. He is still young enough to give us a good return and as with others, Pompey may just reignite his career and hey another England striker

If we could get him on a pay as you play deal then he is worth the gamble. Still think he will end up staying up north though.

only on pay as you play would be worth such a dopey move, and if we offer only that as adeal, then a load of other bigger and better clubs would be ahead of us in the queue. We are lagging so far behind now we are going to suffer big time, so dont expect a comfortable season-and the reintroduction of the two verticle stripes beggers belief-dont they know their history? It was originally introduced when we had a new owner-by the time we dumped itwe were in the the fourth Division.....

Could be worth a deal, although as others have said it all depends on his wages and if he gets injured. Trouble is you can never account for injuries so we'll never know.
