Blackman moves on to Bristol City

Blackman moves on to Bristol City

Andre Blackman is probably not a name that a lot of Pompey fans are familiar with I would guess?

Well, the guy - in the image above - has been a regular in the reserves over the past couple of years but this was not enough to earn him a new deal this summer and we released him...

The former Arsenal and Spurs youngster has now joined Bristol City on a free, with him targeting some first team football with the championship outfit - telling the Bristol City site: 'this is a very big move for me. I've not played a first team game yet, and for the gaffer to sign me and give me the chance to show what I can do is great.

'I want to express myself and show that I can be ready for first team football. It's a big move in general.

'I can't wait to get out there and play, I just have to get over my injury first.'

18-year-old Blackman, who is recovering from an injury but should be back soon, is a left back but is also believed to be able to play as a left winger.

It is a shame things could not work out for him at Pompey but he is not the first to be released by us, and most certainly will not be the last - good luck to him, lets just hope that he does not come back to haunt us one day as being 'one of those that got away'.

he certainly had a good game against fulham reserves and i was beginning to think we had a good left back coming through, but doesnt seem to look like he fitted in. really fast attacking left back, looked good, oh well.

I'm sorry but I just can't get my head around this. The lad has been playing regularly for the reserves, he's only 18 so still maturing. Why did we not let him go out on loan to get some first team experience. It does seem a little short sited. Like you say Rug..."lets just hope that he does not come back to haunt us".

Absolutely. A loan would surely have been a better option? Oh well, I'm sure the youth team guys know what they are doing...

Match highlights - Hartlepool 0-2 Pompey

The slim chances of a top 3 finish ended, despite a win at Hartlepool. Wins for Accrington, Oxford and Bristol Rovers meant Pompey cannot finish higher than our current 5th place.
