Khalil confirms Pompey 'trial'

Khalil confirms Pompey 'trial'

Soon to be Pompey owner Dr SAF last night, well early hours of today, is 'said' to have told Arabian reporters that Ahmad Khalil and Hamdan Al Kamali would be joining Pompey - this has been 'confirmed', well sort of by Khalil at least...

He is 'said' to have told Gulf News that 'there won't be any contract with the club, it will be only for a three-week trials with them.'

So, it appears that the initial move to Pompey - assuming Dr SAF's takeover goes through, as it will - will only be for a 3-week trial during some of pre-season, then I guess if he impresses whoever our management are at the time this could become a permanent transfer from Al Ahli?

The teenager, who I believe was named the young Asian footballer of the year, was believed to have previously had a trial with Chelski, but might not have in actual fact if you can read much into what he also said: 'it will be a new experience and I am happy I have been chosen to join one of the clubs in the English Premiership.'

Taking Khalil on trial, if of course we do, seems an even better proposition than the one we looked to be faced with - this 'should' leave us in an even more 'win-win' situation, if things do not work out then we send him back, if they do it is a bonus!

It is very important to look around the globe for players. Good idea to track down Asian players too. They might come in very cheap, but will be eager to prove themselves.

Trial is a great way to do this. Sends out a good message from Dr SAF - we won't force this on the club. Let's see whether they look any good. All so very positive.

WHo thought after Harry going that we would still be able to have 'Trialists' on the pre-season game sheet. ha ha. A very good idea.

Smith staying at Northampton

Personally I wouldn't have thought Cook would have brought Smith back but even if the Pompey manager wanted this he couldn't under the terms of his Northampton loan.

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.

League Two 2016/17 Golden Boot Battle (27/3/17)

With most playing 39 League Two games in the 2016/17 season, this year could still see a few players break the 20 goal mark.
