'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Al Kamali and Khalil for Pompey?

According to 'reports' from Dubai, on gulfnews.com, it is said that Dr SAF has 'told local Arabic dailies' that he wants not one, but two highly promising UAE footballers at Pompey next season...

These players are said to be Al Wahda's Hamdan Al Kamali, labelled 'the most promising defender in the country' and Al Ahli's Ahmad Khalil, a rising star in UAE football.

The latter of the two, Khalil, was one of a few names that pedalo suggested as possible options we could sign when looking into who the player, when it was said to be player not players, would be and was given a likelihood rating of 5-stars - UAE Superstar? Vital Pompey Investigates....

Both play for the U20 UAE national side with it said both will play in the U20 world cup in September, which will be held in Egypt.

Well, as I often say, time will tell on this matter...

Presumably they will go in to the reserves, rather than immediately be considered first team material

I have no problem with these guys coming to the club. Just hope that they play or don't play based on merit. From what I can ascertain about Dr SAF so far, and I may be wrong, he wouldn't impose rules on the manager that they had to play.
Pompeytim
UKTony, I think you are right, they would need to be 'broken in' for want of a better term.

i would also hope that was the case, 'if' they were good enough fair enough but i would hate a 'dream team' scenario where managers were forced into doing things against their will...

Ditto to everything said above.

Yeah agree with the above. At the same time, as long as he pumps the bunce into the ground and training facilities, I won't be AS concerned if the Doc wants one of his lads strutting his stuff. Obviously, we don't want it to get silly, but Khalil HAS just won Asian Young Footballer of the Year 2008. Get him in! What a spot, though, eh? Haha.

I'll go with the comments above but "Merit" has got to be the operative word though. Playing someone who's not up to the task will cause managerial and dressing room friction. A definite no..no. Having said that, if they are a bit tasty then more power to our elbow.

May be a small price to pay if it keeps Dr SAF happy. We could be a feeder club for the UAE national team. LOL.

Build the training academy first, then bring those players over. We don't need more leechers in the squad.

if they are good, fine. If they arn't, but only feature once or twice in the early rounds of the CC, fine. If they are no good, and feature prominantly... not fine.
