'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Campbell/Davis/Utaka and Johnson 'news'

So, what did Wednesday 17th June bring us 'Pompey reports' wise eh?

Nothing new really, mainly re-used, re-hashed or finally released 'old' news, which on the whole we already knew...

'Reports' in The Express of a new contract being offered to Sol Campbell were already known as this had been touched upon in the forum from a small snippet found on t'internet recently - Peter Storrie of course also confirmed this before he went off to Israel.

From the sounds of it we are not hopeful of him accepted a 'reduced terms' contract 'based more on appearances' and expect him to be 'looking to change clubs.'

For me he was a standout player in the second half of last season and despite looking ropey at times on reduced terms I do not think we could go wrong - so, does he need the money? Hell no, but will we be enough of a challenge for him in the future? It depends how you define 'challenge', and what end of the table this will be at!

Nope, I expect Campbell to move onto pastures new and according to Tribal Football, not them most reliable of sources mind, a 'new club' is in the mix with Belgian outfit Brugge 'said' to have thrown their hat into the ring?

If you see the words 'skysports.com understands' you can usually take this is a pretty good sign that they are right, although for them to be almost taking credit for the thoughts that Sean Davis will sign for Bolton is a bid wide of the mark!

His departure has been almost inevitable for some time now, as has this being to Bolton, the only new thing brought to the table by sky sports are the 'claims' that he 'is believed to have held talks with Bolton and is expected to conclude his move to Lancashire once the transfer window officially opens in July.'

Another offering from Tribal Football, which says 'RMC says' - I would imagine RMC is some form of media outlet in France? - Saint Etienne are interested in John Utaka?

Time will tell, we have already had a 'reported' interest from other clubs in France already but nothing has come of this and I expect the Nigerian to remain at Fratton next season as he has already expressed - it is very, very, very much last of the last chances in the last chance saloon for The Torpedo though...

Oh and of course Glen Johnson's move to the bin dippers is now 'on hold' because media sources have finally realised that with the England man away he cannot possibly undergo his media at Anfield, despite reports to the contrary!

So, not a lot new today, but the most promising thing about today appears to be a shortage of 'overly bad' misquoted and misguided news, which makes a change...

nothing new... why is silly season being so boring?! nothing silly yet. It will be a shame to lose davis, as he was another stand out player last season, and it really will put pressure on the new owner/manager to bring in two good central midfielders.

do not get me wrong davis had a decent season but alongside mullins and hughesie - as much as i love the guy - im pretty sure that i too could, and would, have a standout season as im i would have been totally committed... i will miss that commitment, passion and drive but im 'hoping' that when this deal goes through we can bring in better quality.

also, interesting article on setanta that seems to suggest johnson is a near certainty, the bin dippers are sure anyway... click here...

Utaka off to France eh! Can we have a collection for his ferry fare?

Liverpool said to have offered Glen £80,000 a week & will be their highest paid defender only Gerrard & Torres on more?

Must say I'm really hoping Cambell stays. He along with Distan had a mother of a first half season but came good when they were needed. We are going to be pretty threadbare in all areas if we lose too many players, good ones that is. As for Utaka, I think he should be given another season as an out & out striker to prove himself in that position. Get shot if there's no improvement in his workrate across the pitch.

i think as much as anything sol needs a steadying influence alongside him, linvoy did that before his injury im not convinced that distin is the right sort of influence he needs so if we had to lose one from sol or distin, tbh - and i know distin isnt one of my favourite people at the moment - i would prefer it to be distin... i think kaboul has the makings of a top class central defender and will benefit from sol's experience and could be the more steadying influence for the experienced sol...
pompeyrug
The only problem with Kaboul is that he gets injured very frequently rug. Otherwise, he is an excellent defender and I would like him to be starting more often next season.
