'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Interest 'flatters' Johnson

It is only a little snippet from The Sun today, but they 'claim' that 'in-demand' Pompey defender Glen Johnson is 'flattered' by all the apparent interest in him: 'it's fantastic to be linked with the clubs I have been - but I've not thought about moving.'

Spurs and Liverpool have been long-term admirers of 24-year-old but with the money that 'could' eventually be paid out for him it is thought they will come up short?

Former club Chelski were 'said' to have become the front runners and a return to Stamford Bridge for anything from £10m-£17m has been 'claimed' for the past week or more but now, and as was inevitable at some point, Citeh are 'said' to be the new front runners with them prepared to 'battle' with Chelski for him having table a whooping £18m, now that is more like it!

Further reports from The Express are saying that a clause in his contract allows him to talk to anyone that offers more than £12m? Whispers of a clause have been heard, but this was thought to have been for a fee of £15m or more...

To be honest I still think that Johnson will go and I would not be surprised 'if' they really did come in for him if it was the Citeh vision - I genuinely feel their vision is sold to people, the money helps too of course! - and the £100,000 plus per week, that swayed this... Again, 'if' we can get a bit of a bidding war going too then so be it.

Of course I would love to keep him, but I am not convinced we will - we need him to state categorically that he 'wants to stay' for this, and although he might have said he had fallen in love with football again and appreciated what Pompey had done for him he did not categorically state his desire to stay at Fratton is what he wanted more than anything.

Time will tell, but not over the next 2-weeks apparently as he is now off on a well earned holiday!

He says he will wait to see what the owners say, and will talk to them. I hope Dr AlF can convince him to stay.

we shouldnt need to convince tho should we, he either wants to stay or wants to go right?
im hearing, it could be wrong, that he isnt that keen on a move to citeh tho...

I've just read on the official pompey website that portsmouth council are bidding to become a host city for the 2018 world cup. Surely this means they have no objection to us building a new ground?

I reckon he may not be interested at the moment, but doesn't the player get 10% of the fee paid?? If that being the case plus the £100k + a week wages then he might be a lttle more interested. I wou;ld love to to think he may be loyal and with the new owners coming in realies that he will still get to play every week and I'm sure he ain't on bad money at the moment having just signed his new deal earlier this year. The other thing is that he got his England place and kept it whilst playing for us, so prospects can't be all that bad by staying.

"Bidding" seems to have reached around £18m. At some point, commercial logic of letting him go will outweigh the value he adds by staying at the club. Let's hope that time is far off yet.

I hope we keep him. It is difficult for him to come out and say what he is doing at the moment, cos nobody knows what is happening at the Club.

Is that 100k a week for real or just media talk? What price loyalty? It's certainly way down the pecking order in football today. Still you never know, Glen might suprise us all, and restore a bit of faith in human nature while he's at it. I'm not counting my chickens though. What's that other saying...."Every man has his price"

When has Glen ever said he wants to leave? OK before the Doc it was looking likely he'd be going anyway, but why would he now? At least without waiting to see what happens with the takeover/new manager. Are the club going to sell him before a new manager comes in? I doubt it. There's a lot of media talk, and it will get more after his superstar appearance for Engerland in midweek. But for now, and the forseeable he's OUR superstar. And I have a sneaky feeling he'll stay.

When he signed his extended contract in january he committed his future to Portsmouth as he was told they had no problems, things changed & he was not so sure, now things have changed for the better, so back to the original scenario.

I think glen will stay. He clearly enjoys playing well, and being linked to top 4 clubs is a big compliment to anybody. In terms of value he adds to the squad, we would have been relegated last season if he wasn't in our team. That, to me, puts his value at 30million a season...

johno might have never said he wanted to leave but he has never exactly said he wants to stay... i think this young man - and he is still a young man as despite seeming to have been around for ever he is still only around 24-years-old isnt he - has alot of thinking to do, and his past experiences with chelski will make this decision tougher...
as tony says tho, there will come a time when 'money' takes over and £18m plus would be an expectional offer that would be hard to refuse.
i have been 75:25 that he would go, 50:50 but now back to around 60:40 that he will go tbh...
