Sitting there watching the England game in my living room this evening was slightly frustrating, given that I was meant to be at Wembley - no this was not down to the poxy tube disruptions that I did not go in the end, this was something else. It was frustrating, not because England won, and won well, frustrating because in what is almost certainly to be his last game for England as a Pompey player Glen Johnson was fantastic!
Not expected to play, the Pompey right back not only started, but finished the game - without a booking that people feared - and he had a stormer, against poor opposition or not this cannot be doubted, he was excellent...
Johnson must have assisted at least 3, maybe 4 goals directly and also played a part in another of our goals, which included one for the hard working Peter Crouch - who I did not think would get this - and of course former Pompey striker Jermain Defoe who bagged a pair from the bench, one of which was set up by Johnson.
Lets be honest guys, as much as we want to keep the guy, and as much as we do have the ball in our court he is going to move on this summer - it will be a tough decision for him to make but the guy deserves his crack at the very best, as he is one of the very best now.
As my cousin said to me as we spoke during the game the only thing that is recognisable about Johnson from the one we signed is his name!
We do not need to rush into selling him, and nor should we sell him for peanuts, but £15m or £16m plus would be a good starting point - if we could get some add-ons and/or a potential percentage of a future fee even better.
I am not being defeatist, just a realist as no matter how we sugar coat it and how much we want it to be the opposite Glen Johnson, for me, has outgrown Pompey - it will be a tough call for him to make like I say but he is good enough to play for the very best, but lets make the very best pay the very best price...

if we could get another season out of him i would be delighted, but simply being in a probably possition to be able to keep him doesnt mean that we will does it.
