Fantastic Johnson

Sitting there watching the England game in my living room this evening was slightly frustrating, given that I was meant to be at Wembley - no this was not down to the poxy tube disruptions that I did not go in the end, this was something else. It was frustrating, not because England won, and won well, frustrating because in what is almost certainly to be his last game for England as a Pompey player Glen Johnson was fantastic!

Not expected to play, the Pompey right back not only started, but finished the game - without a booking that people feared - and he had a stormer, against poor opposition or not this cannot be doubted, he was excellent...

Johnson must have assisted at least 3, maybe 4 goals directly and also played a part in another of our goals, which included one for the hard working Peter Crouch - who I did not think would get this - and of course former Pompey striker Jermain Defoe who bagged a pair from the bench, one of which was set up by Johnson.

Lets be honest guys, as much as we want to keep the guy, and as much as we do have the ball in our court he is going to move on this summer - it will be a tough decision for him to make but the guy deserves his crack at the very best, as he is one of the very best now.

As my cousin said to me as we spoke during the game the only thing that is recognisable about Johnson from the one we signed is his name!

We do not need to rush into selling him, and nor should we sell him for peanuts, but £15m or £16m plus would be a good starting point - if we could get some add-ons and/or a potential percentage of a future fee even better.

I am not being defeatist, just a realist as no matter how we sugar coat it and how much we want it to be the opposite Glen Johnson, for me, has outgrown Pompey - it will be a tough call for him to make like I say but he is good enough to play for the very best, but lets make the very best pay the very best price...

"Last game with England as a Pompey player"? Positivism ahoy!
Lysimachus
He was a dude and no mistake. Pity that little creep had to come on but I suppose if he plays well in the World Cup I will have to give him some grudging admiration. I wondered just how patronising the ITV commentators could get with their comments re Andorra. Ok, it was irresistible but a bit crap. And don't speak to me about Andy Townsend. The man needs doing over with a baseball bat.

ITV presenters are drab and awful. When the camera showed Capello watching the match, the commentator described his image as "a millitary look". I was wondering when he'd start talking about Mussolini the more he spoke about the manager.
Lysimachus
trust me Lysimachus i wanna keep the guy at pompey, and i have little doubt that johnson will find it a tough decision to make, but in all honesty now i think that he will move on - he is good enough to play for any team in the country, and plenty in europe too and the opportunity to play for one of the best again isnt something that he will be able to refuse...
if we could get another season out of him i would be delighted, but simply being in a probably possition to be able to keep him doesnt mean that we will does it.

* 'probable', 'position' and 'we will do it', even...

Incidentally the three words I'd use to summarise the Johnson and possible ransom situation!
Lysimachus
Johnon was brilliant tonight, real proud of of him.

There's no doubt Johnson was given a role as the anchor of the England Xi down the right flank. he did a good job of it. But Andorra were worse than a pub side. They actually appeared to be playing that bad whilst sober. That should be an offence against humankind punishable by law. That said Johnson is a class act.

Having watched Glen from the stands last night he did offer a great performance, often consistency is his problem. I think he will leave and this will be confirmed in the next two weeks. I also think Crouch may move on but after last nights performance I'm not sure who would want to cough up £10M +
bluedr
GJ was at his best, going forward & setting up goals. I'm surprised the mancs havn't come in for me yet. You can see why the real big boys want him. £20m +

Absolutely Magic Johnson!!
eastneydave
i'm confident johnson will stay - if he wants to keep his place in the england squad anyway.

20million+raphael and his twin... and maybe someone else... and 10 million. I would settle for that.

Johnson pure class, but ITV & that Townsend I'll hold him while you get your bat, OK Hamersmith?
