Villa to rival Liverpool

Villa to rival Liverpool

The Mail is today 'claiming' that Liverpool are going to have a rival for Sylvain Distin as Villa are 'ready to compete' with the bin dippers for him...

It is said that the Frenchman 'is keen on Anfield but Villa hope to offer the prospect of more regular first-team football.'

I still, even if I admit that Distin had not been my favourite player last season, cannot see why he would want to go to the bin dippers as he will hardly ever play - at least with Villa unfortunately losing the fantastic Martin Laursen due to injury this would give the 31-year-old a much better chance should he go to Villa Park?

'If' there is more interest in him and 'if' he does decide to leave at least with more interest it 'should' at least drive the price a little higher, as the £2m that it is claimed we have been offered is laughable at the moment...right?

Not that surprised, not that worried, don't think he's worth much more...

Distin may not have had a great season especially after HR left, however he still is a top player & we will need to replace with quality if he goes. He'll go on a free next summer so taking some cash now makes sense. SD has been brilliant for us & our previous successful campaigns started when he & some others arrived.

OI agree matt, he is still a top player, and we should aim to keep him. I can't really see why nhe would move now anyway... so I'm not that worried.

Could not replace him for 2 mil, agree he had a bad season but when playing with confidence he's a rock in defence. Have to see who the new manager will be and if they can get the best from him. Just wish the deal with the Dr would hurry up and go through so we know who the new manager will be. Also how is it the West Ham deal seemed to go through in a day and we're still waiting, any ideas?

Runours, rumours, rumours they make me sick. Distin will stay and captain the team next season.

Be good to keep him to mentor Kaboul at CB for the season. Agree we wont replace him for 2Mill, depends how much cash the good Dr is throwing around though i guess

We can not afford to loose Distan & Campbell in one swoop unless we fork out a lot on an top central defender, & if Liverpool & Villa are both looking at him "now doesen't that tell you something".

Agree with Dave and it's not a good idea to have too much upheaval at the back, even if he didn't play that well last season, he's a terrific defender (otherwise, why would Villa & the Scousers want him)

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.

With Doncaster and Plymouth yet to play Portsmouth took advantage to close the gap and extend it on the chasing pack. Newport & Leyton Orient look likely to be relegated.
