Dr SAF visits the Park

Pompey's new owner in waiting Sulaiman Al Fahim, or as we call him Dr SAF, paid his first visit to Fratton on Friday afternoon, also visiting offices at Rodney Road and meeting with some supporters - spending plenty of time with them answering questions.

He did not have a lot to say, but the Pompey Site has published what was said: 'we are currently conducting a thorough due diligence process into the acquisition of Portsmouth FC. I cannot, therefore, comment on the deal at this point.

'I can assure you, however, that as soon as this process is over I will be able to present my ambitious vision for the club's future.

'I'm pleased to be here and I hope I will be able to deliver what the fans want.

'I also want to say that I have been very warmly welcomed here both by the club and its supporters and I look forward to attending many successful matches at Fratton Park as well as getting to know the city and its people.'

Dr SAF has said all the right things so far, and did this again yesterday, and is said to have continued to do so when talking to fans afterwards - lets hope that the due diligence is completed as soon as possible, word is this is expected to be finalised in the next couple of weeks?

Either way though, when he is free to comment on the deal I look forward to hearing what his vision is.

Peter Storrie had this to add: 'we must remember we are in a period of due diligence but Sulaiman al Fahim enjoyed the time he spent at Fratton Park which is encouraging.

'Sulaiman al Fahim saw the ground and surprised me with his knowledge of the Pompey squad.

'He was also keen to speak with some of our long standing supporters and spent half an hour listening to their views.

'I think he was impressed with what he saw and heard and he has a terrific enthusiasm that matches what our fans feel.'

If he shares half the enthusiasm we do then we are onto a real winner!

Rumours persist that Glen Johnson will be leaving, I just hope that we hang fire on any decision with him, and to be fair any other players, until we know exactly where we stand - selling our best player is not something that we should look to rush into, and hopefully we will not do this...

Of course in typical media fashion The Sun had to have their say saying 'fears were mounting last night over who is really putting the money into Portsmouth's proposed takeover.

Premier League chiefs still do not know full details of the bid by Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

It has yet to be rubber- stamped - even though he was paraded around Fratton Park yesterday.'

Blah, blah, blah - of course the Pompey hating media does not want anything good to happen to 'little Portsmouth' do they!

I wish that I had been able to get down to Fratton on Friday, but when you live in Devon its not that easy is it - even more so if you have to work! Was anyone able to make it though, if so what was it like?

What on earth is the Sun talking about us parading Dr Saf around Fratton Park? Surely the man would want to see what he is buying before he parts with his money? Why don't they leave us alone.

Thought the same thing myself Gandor. The media are trying their best to turn good news into bad news! they were just enjoying the "Pompey exidos" stuff so much, they need to try & find anything they can to pick on! typical, predictible media!

'Fears are mounting over who is really putting the money into the portsmouth takeover',......How hyped???? What fears??? it goes on to say that its basically a consortium.....yeah....and the problem is??? and that all investors will be examined.......um....nothing unusual there. then tails off on about johnsons move to chelsea, for some small fee, and how we are in debt....not stuff that we havent heard before but its beginning to boil my blood. hurry up doc, so we can (hopefully) shut these crettins up!!!
ruffcider
actually, under the new rules, I think you have to own over 10% to be examined. and (reportidly) there are over 100 investers. they can't all have a 10% stake, so why do they need to be investigated? and even if they are, we have no reason to doubt that they are "clean"

Let's hope we can shut the press up in 2-3 weeks with the deal done, & a new Manager in place.

Dont forget the bit about "Al-Fahim was introduced to Portsmouth by Pairoj Piempongsant, who brokered disgraced former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's takeover of Manchester City"...Disgraced..they just use words toconjure a negative picture..

It was an eventful day I am told. Press everywhere demanding information and the club shop selling out of most items.

Nice to see him sporting a Pompey cap in the picture, and very glad that he was not put off after visiting FP! lol. He obviously didn't visit the toilets!
sneakay
Sneaks - I was thinking that. I wish there were some more pics of him being given the full Fratton tour - we could have a 'Vital' caption competition!
Squee
you know what Squee, that is a good idea... i might just have a new 'in it to win it' coming in now - i have an idea of how we can use this image tho... stay tunned!

Good man. Does look alot like Max from Max & Paddy/Phoenix Nights.
.Andrew.
The quicker it goes thru the better. Get a manager in & start building for next season. The gutter press are only interested in the worst of times & don't like happy stories. Fck 'em all.
storagematt
100% with you on that Matt, well said.

I'm sure he didn't visit the ladies loos under the north stand at half time!!! ;-) As for the press, I saw that article, it's ridiculous. So a process which is incomplete isn't finished yet (ie the league approving all the owners). Well duh!
tracyc
Oh - and this thing about us "parading" our new owner. Did they go on about Spuds parading the poison dwarf when he was still a Pompey player? Well did they? Did they heck!
tracyc
"I will be able to present my ambitious vision for the club's future." lets hope his ambitious vision for the club is a new staduim and training ground. and developing the academy. a building a great sqaud.+messi
