The Vital Pompey game of the season was...

The meeting with the mighty Milan!

paultsmouth said 'I can think of only one winner, but others may differ.' It would appear that the vast majority did not, or could not...

Some of the football that we played that night, and of course with some players that were technically inferior to their opponents, was fantastic. The attacking play down the wings was breathtaking at times, particularly the pairing of Nadir Belhadj and Armand Traore down the left, although Glen Johnson - in particular, and to a lesser degree Glen Little were wonderful down the right.

People have questioned the players attitude and commitment for large spells this season, and rightly so for me, but if the players could not 'be up' for Milan, they would never be up for anything!

The atmosphere was electric that evening and the 'Tony Adams Blue and White army' is something that I will remember forever, the sound was deafening and seemed to go on forever, but also to see the whole stadium on their feet, clapping, stamping and singing made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck - when you play it back on the box again now it still does...

If only we could have held that 2-0 lead instead of letting it slip at the death to have drawn 2-2, although that said there was only one side that 'really' won that night and the team of superstars from Italy knew this as much as we did!

These are the thoughts that were shared about this in the forum poll voting...

pompey4me: ' Brainer!!!!'

Gleams: 'For me it's easily the AC Milan match. what a night! still can remember walking up to the game, from the hotel, and being stopped in the middle of the road as the AC Milan coach went passed. and Kaboul's goal....quality, my phone just immediately got like 10 texts!!

Went to the Everton match as well, we played awesome that day with Diarra and Defoe, and some great goals as well... but still cant beat AC.'

Gandor1: 'Milan definitely - my friends could hear the game in Hayling Island!'

Chix: 'The victory at Goodison was impressive but I can't bring myself to vote for anything other than Milan.. Game of the decade I reckon... and yep it was better than Wembley ... IMHO of course.'

pompeyrug: 'Yep got to be Milan, an incredible day and evening even if we didn't win... although we were winners anyway in a way!'

A decent number of votes in this one, so to see how this voting went click here.

Home game yes Milan. Away game the first match in Europe to Guimaraes. Easily the two highlights of my season.

tony adams spent a long time predicting that a team would get destroyed by his "blue arrows". And it just so happened to be the biggest team on the biggest occasion that bit the bullet. shame about the end though.

It was an amazing night - one that will go into the history books. Whilst our future looks bright now, its hard to imagine that there'll ever be anything quite like it again. Proud to say I was there. The day we nearly beat Milan.

I'm surprised the club didn't bring out a DVD of the game...would have been a good money maker but guess we're not in as much need anymore!!

Milan at home - well after 50 years I can't remember a better game. As for a DVD I think there is a problem with UEFA regulations. If you recall the game was not shown on the big screen which suggests licence difficulties.

I will always remember the Milan match for many many reasons. Not only was it the BEST match I have ever ever experienced (cos seen just doesn't do it), but it brought me into contact with my cousin who I had not seen for years. He took my hubby's ticket and travelled down from Burton Upon Trent to be at the game. He was crying like a baby when Pompey scored the second goal but unfortunately sobbed the immortal words "they can't catch us now". If only he hadn't said that!!!

Another loan for Oxlade-Chamberlain

As I think we all know by now Oxlade-Chamberlain is the son of former Pompey winger Mark Chamberlain and the brother of Arsenal's & England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Cook - Notts County another tough game

Pompey's form at Fratton has been impressive this season with our home return coming against Notts County off the back of wins at Leyton Orient and a point at Plymouth last Saturday.

Tollitt confident he'll have a Pompey future

Cook's already said the loan Tollitt is undertaking with Tranmere doesn't mean an end to his Pompey career as this isn't a forerunner to a Blues exit in the New Year.
