Pompey returning to Portugal!

Pompey returning to Portugal!

Well, I had heard rumours of this happening, and according to PortuGoal.net - here Pompey are off to Portugal this summer?

Not only are we returning to Portugal again, but are returning to Portugal to face our first ever uefa cup opponents Vitoria in the wonderful city of Guimaraes!

The annual Guimaraes Tournament, running for the 3rd year, is said to have seen Pompey invited to take part along with Benfica, the defending champions - with the competition running from July 31st - August 2nd.

Pompey kick off at the Estadio D.Afonso Henriques against Vitoria on 31st July and face Benfica the following night, the 3-day tournament ends the following day with Vitoria and Benfica playing each other, and I guess the team at the top of the table after 3 games is crowned the winner?

I loved my visit to Guimaraes in October so sure as hell know I will be tempted with a swifter than expected return this summer, getting the time off work, not to mention being able to fund this, could be a problem though!

Nothing has been officially confirmed by Pompey on these reports though, well not as far as I can see anyway?

Ahhhh, fantastic memories of our first visit to play Guimaraes, what a winderful time we had. However won't be there this time as I'll be in Malta. If you can go it is a lovely city with friendly people.

It's tempting, but I won't be able to make it. It's good to see that the pre-season matches are beginning to be announced though, I look forward to finding out about the rest. And then the new kit. And then the actual fixtures. Not to mention the manager and new signings!
