Niko Kranjcar has committed his future to Pompey, at least the next season anyway, following plenty of 'reports' that he could leave us this summer.
The Croatian has never made a secret of the fact that he would like to play for a 'bigger club' and that he would also be happy to see our the final year of his contract before deciding what to do next summer - although if he does not sign a new contract between now and then he could walk away on a free in 2010...
Kranjcar has told Sportske Novosti, I assume some Croat paper or TV station, that he is 'not going anywhere' and talk of him leaving is nothing new, but with a new owner (almost) in place he has no need to leave the club.
He did admit that his 'ambitions are greater than just Premier League survival' though, and I am with him on that one and you would hope that our ambition would be slightly more than that next season - a top 10 finish would surely be the aim?
It is thought that he will take part in Croatia's world cup qualifier with Ukraine on Saturday having recovered much quicker than anticipated from his ankle injury.
I must admit that I was not exactly against the thought of Kranjcar leaving this summer, not that I was for it either but I would have much preferred this and see us get something as opposed to nothing next summer, but with our 'situation' apparently on the change the immediate hurry over what happens with him is not so great.
That said I would still rather we sold him for something than let him leave for nothing next summer - and I guess a lot depends on who comes in as manager, what their plans are for him and us and how well we do next season...
I would like to see a few more coming forward and committing their futures to us as well now, although again there is also no immediate rush for this is there?
