Kranjcar - why would I want to leave?

Niko Kranjcar has committed his future to Pompey, at least the next season anyway, following plenty of 'reports' that he could leave us this summer.

The Croatian has never made a secret of the fact that he would like to play for a 'bigger club' and that he would also be happy to see our the final year of his contract before deciding what to do next summer - although if he does not sign a new contract between now and then he could walk away on a free in 2010...

Kranjcar has told Sportske Novosti, I assume some Croat paper or TV station, that he is 'not going anywhere' and talk of him leaving is nothing new, but with a new owner (almost) in place he has no need to leave the club.

He did admit that his 'ambitions are greater than just Premier League survival' though, and I am with him on that one and you would hope that our ambition would be slightly more than that next season - a top 10 finish would surely be the aim?

It is thought that he will take part in Croatia's world cup qualifier with Ukraine on Saturday having recovered much quicker than anticipated from his ankle injury.

I must admit that I was not exactly against the thought of Kranjcar leaving this summer, not that I was for it either but I would have much preferred this and see us get something as opposed to nothing next summer, but with our 'situation' apparently on the change the immediate hurry over what happens with him is not so great.

That said I would still rather we sold him for something than let him leave for nothing next summer - and I guess a lot depends on who comes in as manager, what their plans are for him and us and how well we do next season...

I would like to see a few more coming forward and committing their futures to us as well now, although again there is also no immediate rush for this is there?

I was strongly against kranjcar leaving this summer. (before Dr SAF came) we needed to keep hold of at least one creative player. before he ws injured, Hart was playing him in a three man midfield, which had at least some creativity. if he left, we would probably have never seen the end of mullins and highes playing together. Now, he is still one of our best players, who we should obviously aim to keep.

Who cares if he leaves on a free - we're rich now so we don't need to 'raise cash'. I think having him in our team would be more valuable in the long run. I still think that the main thing to come out of this article is the fact that Niko has 'changed his mind'. He obviously sees the potential in having Dr SAF as an owner, as we all do, and as such I think this could be a reflection on how the entire squad is feeling?

I'd like to see Krancjar stay. Before he got injured he was the only one who gave us the any creativity at all. He could play an important part in any new line up that is not dependent on our present mid field. He was playing in his natural hole last season, and I for one was impressed how he utilised it.

To be fair to Nico he always said he would see his contract out, but felt the club were going to sell him at the end of the season to raise cash, now things have changed so I feel we will offer him another contract, 100% if Bilic becomes manager

deco would be a good signing. Even if he's old, he is a brillinant player. but then, basinas isn't bad either, and he could barely get on the bench, due to the MASSIVE talents in midfield we have at the moment.

I hope that Nico stays, and more importantly stays fit, when he is up for it and on top of his game he is a class act. However on another day, he is a luxury, and we had too many of those last season.

Although I'm not always Niko's biggest fan, I would like him to stay, and its good to see players coming out and saying they want to carry on playing for Pompey. Nobody will get any new contracts now till the deals gone through and a new manager appointed.

`All the "Big players" seem to be saying they are happy on the south coast...so all looks rosey at the present time...just cant count chickens yet

Davis, Hughes & Mullins need to be shipped out. Yes we need a midfield with the talents similar to Diarra/Muntari. As for Niko, he needs to produce over a season & we need to sign him up on a longer contract. Don't like the idea he can go on a free next season. If that is the case he'll go for a small sum in January. Not that we need the dosh though!!!

If a player is loyal enough, he would sign a new deal and if he moves on, the club will benefit. Johson done that, even if now it seems that he is going to stay. Davis, for example did not do that for many reasons. I would take the contract away from him now, because he shouldn't be part of our new team - he did reject us! Hope it won't be the same issue with the Croat.

It's good that the players are now all starting to comit to the club. They realise that they are not going to get sold and see that there is potential to climb the league again and possibly win some more. Niko is also probably aware that it is world cup year next year and he will need to play on a regular basis to get into the Croatia team. Would he do that at the likes of a bigger club?
