'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Johnson is Fab for Capello

You are in prime position to go into next summers world cup finals as the 'first choice' for your country in your given position - with that in mind why would you wish to take any risks, up sticks and potentially threaten this eh?

Well this is what Glen Johnson risks should he be tempted to move away from Pompey this summer as Fabio Capello has confirmed that 'Glen Johnson is first choice' for him at the moment.

A move to Liverpool, albeit with champions league football, or to Spurs with the fringe benefits of being managed by your former boss - or not, as the case may be - all looked attractive propositions to the right back just a few days back, but why with a 'possible' shift in our own status and when you are firmly established would you want to risk unsettling this and potentially losing your place?

I would be very surprised if Johnson risked changing the continuity he now has, if he did he may well find that the wrong decision has been made - as the saying goes 'the grass isn't always greener' is it...

Good point, hope he's reading this.

I think Glen's enjoying himself here and will play every game, which is important for improving your game. With all the (alleged) money we're going to get then I think that will sway him, after all he's got a good contract, we'll be getting in more and better players and hopefully, a top class manager. Why leave?

Jonno is the best English right-back out there right now, if he were to go to Liverpool, he would probably be in for their Euro campaign, what with the new rules on home bred players, if he were to stay at Fratton however, he plays week in when fit, and who knows where we are headed?

I saw a report somewhere on line that said Crouch and Johnson had both been told they weren't for sale since the takeover news broke.

I hope so!

Unless Pompey find a top class manager who can convince Glen Johnson to stay -- you will likeley lose him. It's all very well having a rich owner, but the manager will call the shots.

I think we'll be okay, and they'll stay now, I don't think they wanted to leave, but they very nearly had to. :)

I swear that was my point that I have been trying to put accorss to everyone in the sunshine days standing out the front of the Milton! lol

before it looked nailed on that johnson, crouch and so on would leave this summer - not because the wanted to, but because they had to be sold!
without the need to sell, why sell - johnson would not have signed a new 4-year contract in january if he was not happy at pompey would he, yep i know contracts mean little, but the thought does...

GJ would get picked whoever he played for. If Liverpool or Man Utd came knocking GJ would be tempted provided he wanted to live that far north. I would imagine it will happen one day. Thankfully we could turn their requests down but that would mean little if the player wants to go!

He has to be number one priority, before any signings as I have always said, now we have a chance to keep him, I think we could,& hope we can.
pompeyyong
I don't think he wants to leave for one moment, it was just looking nailed on that the club wouldn't be in a position to refuse a big money offer for him. Now that's changed, I think he'll stay.

Johnno is top draw, and i hope that he plays in both games, and then come back and committ himself to Pompey again.
Owenspompey
It was inevitable that he'd be sold before the Dr stepped in, but it's got to be tempting to him to stay now and see how things pan out. He's been playing every week and will be next season. He's only young and will get better still.
