'The sky's the limit now'

...Just one of the quotes attributed to a 'source' that The Sun claims to have in their 'I'll Sheikh up Pompey' article.

An article regarding Sulaiman Al Fahim's 'apparent' plans for Pompey...

'This is Portsmouth's wildest dream come true. The club was in a desperate financial mess but all the debt has been cleared in one huge swoop.

'This lot mean business. They have huge plans for the club and want to out-do Manchester City in the spending stakes.

'They'll transform Portsmouth into a real Premier force - the sky's the limit now.'

I think these are the kinds of things we are going to have to get used to from the likes of The Sun for the time being - they will start inevitably 'linking' us with player after player for multi-million pound amounts...

Time and patience is the key for me, keeping expectations to an acceptable limit must be the way to go. We cannot get carried away - maybe in time we will be 'a real Premier force' but this will take time, so lets not get suckered into the medias way of thinking and go overboard. Airing on the side of caution must be the way to go?

Transforming us as a club from 'top to bottom', looking at all areas of the club is wonderful to hear - doing this as a steady and gradual process would be even better, and early indications, despite 'sources' that will come out, are that this is the game plan.

My own personal goals for the immediate future were laid out in this, What a difference a day makes! - check it out and see what you think...

Happy Birthday to us all. Yes, very easy to get carried away but slowly but surely at first. We need to build a team that can play together, not a load of overpriced money grabbing under performing egos.

Started the day still having to pinch myself to believe that this has happened. Holy Smoke it's real. Have read the article in the news about how Cities new owners have done one hell of a lot more for the club and supporters than just a few wild transfer headlines. Investing in their accademy, infrastructure etc. That sounds great to me. I still think the enormity of this take over is going to take some time to sink in, but I'm enjoying the ride. Wonder where we'll be five years from now???

I think the Prem Will be a lot more intresting next season. Forget the big 4. The 5 way fight below them between Villa,Everton,Spurs,Man city and pompy will be Terrific

hasn't the fight for the two/three european places always been more intresting than the predictable fight for the top 4?

Carpet the man is rich, he sold two of his concerns for over a billion, and is listed as the 16th richest in that part of the world. We needed someone to sort out the debt, ensure our quality players stay, and the hangers on left. Invest in the ground, build the training facilities and devleop the youth system, these can now be sorted as well. Now we can bring in some quality and move on to the next level, Randy Lerner did it for Villa now it could be our turn

Totally agree with the article, UAE investors live lavish life styles and that's because they are famously risk averse with their business funds

The top 4 might be predictable but who finishes where in the top 4 is not.In my earlier post i meant that the Fight of Supremacy between the Best of the Rest would be more intresting than the Fight between liverpool, chelsea and Man utd to win the Championship. One of us might Even pipe the Scum for the 4th spot. One more Reason that the prem would be fantastic next season is that the Barcodes will not be there. they will be Busy playing the Likes of Reading, Scunthorpe. I truely cant wait and i really hope you buy good players

russellm, harry wont be sorry that he came to us. After all he has taken us from rock bottom to 8th place and Enhanced his Reputation further. Its not like he has shortage of cash anyway. he has more funds to work with than ever before in his career. He even managed to out spend City in january after Spending 53 million. If anything Harry would be happy for you guys.

just something from over here in Bangkok. One of the guys that brokered the deal is Thai, and during the coverage of the Barcelona - Man U game last night my missus said that the commentators had mentioned Portsmouth and Henry in the same sentence. Now it may be a long shot, but he did say he would like to wind down his career here... rijkard for manager

Yid from India - I don't think you understand. Harry enjoyed an almost Godlike status in Portsmouth. He was going to have one of the City Bells named after him. We had been talking about making him "Sir" Harry, he was given the freedom of the City, he was worshipped by some of the most fervent fans in the country, who would have stuck with him through thick and thin. He had what it takes years to achieve, and now he will be having to start all over again with you. You are right, he won't be sorry he came to you, but he will be sorry he left us. At the end of the day, the only reason he left was cos we had no money.........

Yid_from_India, mate Gandor is spot on - in time you will see what motivates 'him', all it will need is a couple of 'declines' for what he wants from levy and that will be him done, he will walk away... if his 'hands are tied' and he cannot do the dealing he wants thats when he turns. he left us because it suited him, he had a project to go to with spurs that offered him money, if someone else came along and offered him more personally, and offered him money to spend he would jump ship on you too...

pressed enter too soon... he did have god like status here, we all worshiped him, and 'most' had forgiven his venture down the road. spurs are a big club, but money is what motivates him - the thought of being able to have gone down in history for what he 'might' have done with little portsmouth had he stuck away will be chipping away at him, he will be kicking himself, and sandra, for not waiting around for longer.

what bugs me most of all, is that he told us he was "pompey til I die". said he wanted to retire at pompey. said he had turned down large offers becuase he didn't care about money. AND THAT WAS ALL A LIE!

Gandor, you maybe Right. but the main reason harry Left you was because he turned down a Newcastle offer and people were saying he was not good enough to manage a Big club. So he was detrmined to accept a offer if another Big club came knocking. I disagree that he will be starting all over Again. He spent quite a lot during january and he has Assembled a very good squad that has shot us upto 8th. He says that he has 3 players in mind that would cost us about 30 to 40 million that would make us a real force. So he is not starting all over by selling 10 and buying 10 players. He Already has built a good Squad.

pompycarpet, i dont think harry will leave if anybody with more money come Knocking. the only team that probably spends more money than us in transfer windows is Man city. like us they buy Crap players for lots of money. i think the main reason for harry leaving is because of the fact that he has never managed a really big club with high Expectations

i maintain my belief, which i had all along, that he only didnt go to newcastle because ashley wouldnt get the brush out and sweep away the likes of wise and so on like he did for shearer - he he done that for, and left decisions fully to 'him' he would have walked away there and then... as it was spurs then pampered to him and did exactly what he wanted, so he went.

nope Ossie some of us still have not got over his second betrayal, trust me this is something that will be hard to forget - forget about ever forgiving - people cannot understand how much it hurt unless they have been in our position of it, i would suspect that if you took your sol campbell thing and doubled that you would be somewhere near to it...
karma comes back to work things out, and 'maybe' this is karma coming back for him, not directly to him but to show him would 'might' have been.

I understand that it will be hard to forget but you cant hate him for trying to have a go at a bigger stage. I understand that he told you he will stay pompy for life. But he probably had Second thoughts when people said he was unable to handle a big club or Achieve anything great. He did not want to have Regreats when he finishes his Career.

Someone on here said UAE investors are risk averse - sorry, but that's a joke - the UAE would not be where it is (Dubai's first tarmac dual carriage way was built in 1976) without people who had commercial flair and vision and who were risk-takers. Snow-laiden ski slopes in Dubai, night-time golf courses, underwater hotels, glass palaces in the mountains... risk averse??? Turning Pompey into a top four side should be a walk in the park for these guys!

Sky coverage of this has been a laugh - Storrie in his casual short sleeved shirt looking all summer holiday, a few Pompey boys grinning from ear to ear and a close up of a garden gnome from the Pompey shop just to patronise us! Apparently Dr Al Fahim is going to fly to Pompey for all the home games (FP may be a bit of a shock to him). Still I will happily stand up and cheer him

no one said that he couldnt manage a big club yid. that was all fabricated by harold, no one said it. he used it as an excuse to place the blame away from himself, to justify it and try to save face. it never happened. its not hard to see. google it, im sure the only articles you find are ones with him saying it.
