Distin to stay? Time will tell...

Distin to stay? Time will tell...

Sylvain Distin has told The News that he 'expects to be a Pompey player next season', although he also admits that 'things can change'.

He is under contract, so unless we do sell him he will be here next season - 'if' Spurs do place that 'reported' £4m, or so, offer they are going to for him this summer then I cannot see a) us saying no and b) him saying no...

To be honest I think that 'mentally' the Frenchman left us months ago, to be fair he has put in some good shifts alongside Sol Campbell - who for me has been fantastic the final months of this season on the whole - in the past couple of months, but all in all it has just looked 'too easy' for him, and not in a good way too easy way, and a real sense of commitment on and off the pitch seems to have been lacking?

Those calling for him to be made captain on The News message boards are having a laugh though are they not?

He, and other 'senior' players have a lot to answer for this season in my thinking, and it was their professionalism, or lack of, that helped get us into a mess that we were lucky to escape from - their appalling actions costing Tony Adams his job, granted he did not help himself either, nor did results and bad luck did not help at all, but a lack of commitment to him from the players played a major role!

Unfortunately unlike Distin, and the rest, I cannot go away on 'holiday, relax and refresh my mind,' if only I could - sadly all my holiday time, and money, has been used up following you lot around the country and Europe this season...

I am glad the season has ended, and at the moment I am on a bit of a downer so seem to take a dim view of most things, and at the moment very cynical, when I am often the other way - so, at this moment in time I do not think that he will stay next season and I am not sure I am even that bothered if he did not!

To be fair to the Frenchman though, although I was not overly impressed with his - or anyone's to also be fair - performance yesterday I liked his post game reaction where he spent a fair amount of time in front of us giving the thumbs up and throwing his shirt into the crowd. I am not sure if this was to say goodbye, or to acknowledge that he knows things were not good enough this season, the look on his face seemed to suggest sorrow and some sort of respect at least...

I thought a long time ago that Distin would leave. He seemed to have changed under TA. Would not surprise me at all if he did not follow Twitch.

I hope he does stay! I'd rather see Sol Campbell leave tbh. He's proving to be a liabilty, more then anything else.
