'Portsmouth 'Til I Die'

'Portsmouth 'Til I Die'

Right guys this is a reminder about the new book, 'Portsmouth 'Til I Die', being written that we can be a part of - this article was first ran on Monday 27th April, but I am running it again to remind people to have their say as time is running out....

You may, or may not have seen on the Pompey Site that they are looking for fans to 'share their memories'...

Well, as people have, and continue to do this right here on Vital Pompey I reckon we could have some to share - so why don't we go for it?

I reckon I will forward a memory or two that I have written, as you never know they might take some and use them - if anyone else plans to do this can you not only forward it to them but also forward it to me ( for definite use on here in our 'Pompey memories' section?

For more info on this see the article, which is from the Pompey Site, below...

Were you at Wembley to see Pompey lift the FA Cup last year?

Did you see the Blues gain promotion into the Premier League?

Perhaps you were in Portugal for Pompey's first away match in a European competition? Or maybe your favourite moments are something different.

Whatever your special memories of Pompey are, we want to hear about them.

Portsmouth Football Club, along with the National Literacy Trust, is publishing a book called 'Portsmouth 'Til I Die' that will reflect on the memories of the club's supporters.

This idea has been designed to share the passion and emotion of football fans with the community, a concept which has proved very successful at many other clubs.

This is a great opportunity for Blues fan to share their amazing adventures when following their team home and away.

We want to hear from those supporters have who have travel great distances to get to games and the people who have been supporting Pompey their whole lives.

Portsmouth Football Club has teamed up with the National Literacy Trust and Legends Publishing to produce this collection of memories, which will be on sale this summer.

Funding for this project has been provided by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Football Foundation and the National Literacy trust.

We are also going to be sending out 600 free copies to schools, libraries and various groups within the community to encourage a whole new generation of Pompey fans, as well as arranging storytelling events that will be held at the club and areas in the community.

So whether you're young or old, send us your stories of excitement, delight or even frustration and you could read about them in this new book.

Email them to or to send them via the website.

You can also post them to 18 Darby Crescent, Sunbury-on-Thames, TW16 5LA.

But make sure you hurry because the deadline is May 31 2009.

I've had a bit of contact with the editor of this book and they are very keen and very helpful if you have any questions. I've also read a number of similar publications they have done and although they very good there is nothing at all that contributors to this site can not match.. Rug, Eastneydave, Paul, Pies, Carpet, Gino, Tracyc.. stuff I have read from you (and others of course) in the last month or so, is, (IMO) easiy good enough for consideration I reckon.. and here is the good bit ... You can recycle something you've written before .. It doesn't have to be a new piece... Come on fellas it'll be great to get some Vital Pompey members included .. I'm certainly going for it .. One piece of advice though... The editor (forget his name) suggested that we avoid pieces on Wembley as he is inundated with them .. which is obvious I guess

only a few days to go guys...
chixy, could you forward me me ideas - or at least point me in the right direction of these articles that i, and others, have done that you think could be best used? i can then contact people and ask them to forward these for consideration?

Agree Rug. We write a lot of memory stuff but need others to judge which is the most readable/enjoyable.

Rug/Dave... There are many examples that I can think of but Milky Magic by Paul and Tracyc recent extract in Toast stand out in terms of recent memorable.. Also Tracy's Newcastle write up.. IK think Storagematt did a write up of his time at the Braga game.. UK Tony did his semi final diary .. Dedmans first recolection of the greats.. Ginos first encounter at Fratton.. Seriously there are loads when you think about it .. And they don't have to be attendance at matches either.. Best bet is to go onto their website and read what other clubs have submitted.. That'll give you a flavour of what they are loooking for .. The funny thing is that I'm encouragainf eveybody to do this and haven't even finished mine yet !!.. and I go on holiday just before the deadline.. better stop gassing and pull my finger out... Seriously fellas (all of you) .. you know what you have written so get it submitted... And Rug & Dave you have written so many things about your experiences at games or a particular player you've seen play there must be something you two can submit.. !!

Hi chaps, still adjusting to the new life etc, would very appreciate my article for our first trip in Europe. Thank you Rug for all your efforts.
29/05/2009 20:31:00
Well I've submitted mine .. with put up on site later in the month.. and although I did mine off my wn bat Rug has scoured the site and come up with some really good articles for submission.. I didn't have time to read them all but going on the quality of what I've seen if he contacts you and suggests you submit it .. just say yes.. seriously guys.. you really dont appreciate the quality of submissions on Vital Pompey until you compare them to other stuff...
29/05/2009 21:04:00
I've sent in some of my articles, which was made much easier by Rug e-mailing me copies of them. Cheers mate.
30/05/2009 09:32:00
Nice one Tracyc... Now fingers crossed for all of us ... now we wait ...
31/05/2009 07:55:00
Mine have been submitted too along with copy of match programmes which they have requested after my first submission.

Hopefully quite a number of our articles will appear as the quality here is second to none.
