Linvoy to get his testimonial?

Many were under the impression that you had to serve 10-years with a club to be granted a testimonial - hence why we were so keen to offer Linvoy Primus another year, in what would have been a limited playing role contract combined with others duties I would suspect.

However according to a report in The News it has been confirmed by an 'FA spokesman' that 10-years service is not actually the mandatory requirement for a testimonial to be granted, and this is down to the clubs own discretion!

So, the good news appears to be that we will now almost certainly see Linvoy granted his richly deserved testimonial this summer - I just hope that we do him justice and bring along an opponent, with some star studded names involved, that he deserves and knowing Linvoy he will not be thinking of his own benefits from this testimonial anyway...

The bad news however is with this testimonial now allowed to take place this summer I would think that it is a near certainty that his playing career with the club will end at the end of the season with him hanging up his boots and taking on an ambassadorial role with the club?

My real concerns for his testimonial taking place this summer are the fact that the North Stand is being closed off over the summer, or at least for the 'Friends of Kanu' game on Monday - this is said to be for 'refurbishment and maintenance' but some feel that 'maybe' some sort of work on the proposed redevelopment of Fratton is starting a summer early?

Either way, and whatever is happening, 'if' the North Stand remained closed throughout the summer then this could significantly reduce the numbers that attend Linvoy's testimonial, and there sure as hell would be plenty of people wanting to go... That said if this waited until nearer the start of the season whatever 'maintenance' is being carried out will be done, although the opponents and those involved might be 'lesser' on the eve of a new season?

I guess all will be revealed on this matter shortly...

He thoroughly deserves a testimonial, and he will get a full Fratton Park. The North Stand will not be demolished until the new stand has been started behind it so the capacity isn't reduced too much.

I agree with you RUG that we will need the whole ground open as I'm sure it'll be a sell out. Also I don't care if Primus had only been with us for 5 years, his loyalty and professionalism alone deserve to get the recognition of a testimonial match. PUP

These things take time to organise - its not going to happen until the start of next season at the earliest, more likely the end. I'm sure the ten years has something to do with the taxman rather than any footy 'rule'.

we have not even organised our pre-season yet, so it shouldnt be that hard to 'slip it in' with that should it? that said, like i have said, if the whole of fratton isnt open this isnt going to do him justice is it - then again 'if' we go ahead with this redevelopment as planned then the whole of fratton isnt going to be open for next summer and the one after... so the best bet 'is' this summer, assuming we are not actually starting any work this summer as is suspected by some...hmm?

I'm looking forward to this match already - will be a bigger crowd and better atmosphere than some league matches.

The real story of the North Stand will be in this weekends Toast. Great news about a man who truly deserves a testimonial all proceeds will go to charity you can bet!

Linvoy is a modern day hero & deserves all the credit he gets. The testimonial is well deserved & trust we can fil FP for him.
