I think the words 'Theofanis Gekas has left Pompey' will not surprise anyone will they?
If anyone expected, or thought, that Theo Gekas would be staying beyond the end of this season I would be surprised, strike that amazed!
The only 'slight' surprise for me is the fact that he has 'reportedly' left Fratton before the season ended, with The News 'reporting' that the Greek striker actually left last Sunday, which was someway ahead of schedule.
'Apparently' Gekas refused to take part in the game with Sunderland on Monday so was promptly shown the exit door ahead of schedule as a result...
I do feel for the guy, ok his attitude might stink in as much as he refused to turn out for the ressies and then 1st team, but to have been made him prove himself like no other senior players has really had to do so was insulting to a seasoned pro who has an excellent goalscoring record at club and international level - maybe 'personal differences' got in the way of things here, and that should not be how things are done.
Best of luck to the guy though, I somehow doubt we will be spoken of very highly by him, or many, if any, other Greeks in the future though!
Jermaine Pennant is also expected to go the same way, something that does not surprise me, but does disappoint me slightly to be honest.
The fact that he did not even make the bench on Monday confirmed what I had basically already come to accept - we would not be making an offer to him.
No part of the 'walk of shame', oops, I mean 'lap of appreciation' on Monday after the game and also allegedly not going to the end of season awards evening on Monday only caps it to be honest.
I suspect that a deal has already been agreed with someone else, quite possibly Sunday's opponents Wigan, although 'reports' claim that Villarreal could snap him up?
I would have liked Pennant to have been given more of a chance, and would also have liked us to have signed him on, but there you go. That said he can blow hot and cold and would be on good money, 'if' we get a new manager in they might not fancy him, so we could not be offering him a deal, and I guess nor can we to that many other people can we!?
The chances of him featuring on Sunday would be somewhere between slim and none methinks...

As for Pennant.. he showed glimpses but if he seriously thinks he is good enough for Real Madrid then so is Mullins.. well maybe not Mullins but you take my point !
