Johnson secures a clean sweep

Johnson secures a clean sweep

Unsurprisingly Glen Johnson scooped all 9 Player of the Year awards on offer this season. Supporters from all over the world, in various supporters groups, picked the England man out as our star player this season, with him becoming the first player to pick up all 9.

Johnson spoke to pfcTV about this, speaking about how happy this made him and how he appreciated it, also speaking about the game last night and his preference at playing right back - although he is happy playing as a right winger if needed, but just playing is what he wants.

The guy doing the interview, another unsurprising thing really stopped short of actually asking him 'if he would be here next season' - someone from pfcTV is not going to ask a question that we basically already know the answer to are they! - but did say something along the lines of 'you look like you are enjoying it at Pompey and played well again tonight.'

The answer that he was given was 'thank you' and him saying he has 'enjoyed every moment of his time here and will continue to do so.' All in all, and maybe I have read between the lines too much, this was as much of a 'thanks for everything and goodbye' as you can get...

I tell you what though, whoever does get Johnson - and I suspect it will be Liverpool, is going to benefit. I just hope that they appreciate him as we sure as hell do after his 'rocky' start. Anyone not realising how much we will miss him soon will!

If it was his choice I honestly do think he would stay here, he plays every week without fail, and this helps him with England, but as he is a highly profitable asset he is a commodity that will almost certainly be sold over the summer...

I really hope he stays, but we need a wealthy backer to keep him. I see Brighton have now got a owner lending them £50m+ to finish the stadium. We really need someone like him or a consortium. Johnson is a fantastic player, here he is a star but would he play every week at Liverpool?

Does he care? After all better wages, better players, ok I've depressed myself now.

Yes he would because arbeloa is crap. Also dont man u need a decent right back?? think theyve tried 4 players there this season..o'shea, neville, rafael and brown!! it's their 1 weak position!

Got to be worth £15M, certainly should not sell for anything less.

Lemmi, of course he will care about playing every week. Next season is the run up to the World Cup and Johnno has made the number 2 shirt his. By not playing he would loose his place. I think there is a good chance he will still be here next season. The only big player to go who we still have on contract will be Niko in my opinion.

If Liverpool or even Man Utd come sniffing, it will be hard for GJ or even Pompey to turn them down. A minimum of £12m but who knows! Good luck to Glen, he deserves all the accolades, top man.

liverpool is the move to make if he is going to make any more, im not convinced that manyoo need him as much as the bin dippers do - rafael is manyoo's future methinks, he along with his borther fabio on the left...
i want to be convinced that johnson will stay, but just cannot see us not cashing in on assest like johnson, crouch and kranjcar...

Well all we are going to talk about now is who is leaving especially as PH has said 'we will not be able to punch above our weight for much longer and need to be realistic in these times'.

Still congratulations to Johnno, I always belived even when he had those dodgy spells of concentration is his early days that he would be the England right back for many years.

Well done to him, he's been on fire this season and deserves every one of those awards. Would love to see him stay but it aint gonna happen is it? So just have to wish him well (except when he plays against us of course).

Really hope he stay but the temptation to go for him will be massive and the temptation for Pompey to cash will also be .. Fingers crossed he'll stay .. but if he does we'll be having the same debate in Jaunary and again next May .. Bottom line is that we all know he is too good for us ... So as with Diarra .. Let's just enjoy him while we can and hopefully Wigan will not be the last time we see him in a Pompey shirt..
