Squeaky bum time?
Is anyone sitting slightly uneasy about Pompey's fate at the moment?
The Newcastle and Boro game producing a winner was not in the script for many people, who would have preferred a draw, although I do think that someone winning that game was better for us in the long run...
I say that as this meant mathematically another team less could catch us.
A draw would have meant that it was still possible for both to catch us, as it is only Newcastle can catch, and overtake, us now - Boro winning, due to an inferior goal difference would have been better, but hey ho!
1 out of 3 being able to catch us obviously leaves us with better odds of being ok as opposed to odds in our favour with 2 out of 4...
To be honest I still think that we will be ok as I do not think that the 3 teams that can catch us will all catch us, not that I am taking this for granted!

Sat 16th - Bolton (a)
Sun 24th - Manyoo (a)
Newcastle's fixtures
Sat 16th - Fulham (h)
Sun 24th - Villa (a)
Sunderland's fixtures
Mon 18th - Pompey (a)
Sun 24th - Chelsea (h)
Our fixture's
Mon 18th - Sunderland (h)
Sun 24th - Wigan (a)
'If' one from Hull or Newcastle, or both, are beaten at the weekend then we are safe before we even play Sunderland.
On the other hand if both win, although on past form this is 'unlikely' but not impossible, then we would be only a point ahead of each, added to the 2pts ahead of Sunderland going into our game with them at Fratton on Monday, meaning picking up only a point would not be enough to secure survival...
Sunderland will come to Fratton looking to win, they need that win whatever happens this weekend! A win could secure their survival dependant on weekend results, so the best thing for us to do is fight fire with fire - forget this 4-5-1 mumbo jumbo, and setting out purely not to lose, that is not good enough, we must set up with a 4-4-2 formation and show some positive signs.
It will be a nervy weekend for us, but if results do go against us not as nervy as Monday will be! Then if that goes against us the following weekend will be torture, and the fear would then be that as others are taking momentum into this final game we might just pay the price for not having secured our own fate weeks ago when we had the chance, and we have had more than enough chances but refused to take them!

I cant see newcastle, Hull and Sunderland all winning their last two games. That is why I am confident that we will stay up. We all know that Hart is going to play for two draws in the last games as 'survival comes first'. It is going to be a very close thing and I feel we may end up finishing 16th or 17th when we could have pushed on for a near top 10 finish a few weeks ago.

It's still entirely in our own hands but that still doesn't fill me with optimism - we've clutched defeat from the jaws of victory so many times this season! Like others have said, we should have been safe already but throughout the season the board, the management and the players have bottled it too many times. We have become almost paralysed by fear. I've seen this happen to many a side that was "too good to go down" over the years.

if we play for 2 draws, as we probably will, and if that is all we get we will deserve what we get 'if' that proved not to be enough in the end... as it is i still feel that will be enough.

I think the current bottom 3 will go down. WBA are the only ones in any form, but thankfully have probably left it too late. I always felt that Hull would be Newcastles saviours, as long as the geordies could get a result somewhere.

If we play as we did at Blackburn then Sunderland will beat us. Sunderland will come at us to win. Bolton & Newcastle could win on Saturday, they may not but we'll know a lot more befor e we kick our game off. I still feel unless we beat Sunderland we'll have to go to Wigan & get something.

I think we'll get a result against Sunderland. Hart et all will have listened to the match and realised that there's still a big possibibility that we could get dragged into this. After the Blackburn horror-show, he'll want them to play for a win. Interestingly enough, I was listening to Five live last night, and they were talking about Hull and Sunderland, yet when someone said 'what about Portsmouth?' the others all just said 'they'll be fine'. I wish I shared their optomism!

Of course we'll be OK, its between Hull and Newcastle who goes down. But lets have a win against Sunderland anyway - even if we are safe by then. I wanted a draw on Monday night, and for some reason I find myself relishing Newcastle going down. But that win wasn't so bad for us, and Hull or Newcastle only need to lose once and that's it for us. Can't see Fulham not taking 3 points on Saturday. We'll be fine!

I rekon she'll be right.. they got some pretty hard games remaining. Hull were doing really well in the first half of the season, what happened??

Ull be fine boys.....u were bad against us on Sat n v read alot of ur ideas about Hart and his lack of tactics but the simple fact is that it comes down to quality....uv got more than the others around you and it will show....got talkin to a few of ur lot on Saturday...thoroughly nice people and iv decided that i like Pompy....i think we're very similar clubs and i like the people so im cheerin u from now on..unless ur playin us!!! All the best for ur up and comin games!!!!

Thanks mani. W do have the quality to stay up, whether we retain that for next season is open to question, however if we can build on what we have and maybe use some of he players we already have at our disposal next season could be a good one. We do need a new owner soon though.
