Kranjcar stay expected?

'Niko Kranjcar will stay with Pompey this summer', not my vote, yours - although these findings from race's poll are thoughts that I do agree with to a degree...

Had Kranjcar not been injured against Bolton I feel it was a near 100% nailed on, dead cert that the Croatian would have left Pompey this summer...as it is, due to the fact he probably wont be fit until we start pre-season in July, I suspect that we may well still have him here next season, but would not expect him to be here the summer after...

With a year to go on his contract we would have been looking to cash-in on Kranjcar, as we would not want to lose him for nothing. The injury makes it less likely we will get what we would have and might not even sell at all - not until January anyway, by which time I suspect his value would be much less than it would have been this summer?

He was a 'saleable' asset, and for me an asset that I would have let go, and one that if he did/does could mean/could have meant we got to keep others - as you can see a lot in my mind depends on him going or not! But now I am not so sure he will and think others will go to compensate for this...

The best thing we can do in that case then I guess is to convince him to sign a new contract with us on the promise that we will let him go in January, or the summer of 2010, we at least cover ourselves price wise for him - that said it is a 'risky' game to play in tying someone down he might not be committed, and/or would be covered should something more serious happen - touch wood it did not. He may well also recover sooner, rather than later, so might go anyway?

Either way, if Kranjcar was still with Pompey at the start of the 2010/11 season I would be amazed...

  • What the poll asked - Has Kranjcar played his last game for Pompey?

  • How you voted - No he will stay 52%, Yes he will leave 44%, Not sure 3%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

I'm afraid I can still see him going this summer. Is the injury as bad as we're making out? Are the club trying to re-assure the fans that he won't be sold?

My Villa mate says they want him to replace Barry who will eventually be going off to Bindippers

remember this is 'just' what a poll found, im not sure what will happen - i suspect the injury will prevent him being sold, when he otherwise would have for sure, but who knows...

When I asked for the poll I expected that the members would vote that he had played his last game in favor of about 70%. So i'm surprised how the poll turned out. I guess that there is some belief out there that he will be playing for us next season. I hope so

I want him to stay. Our best player in my opinion, and think he'd be great - plus you never know if Bilic takes over (like I've predicted) Kranjcar might be willing to stay.

word on the street is bilic is coming to the premier league and hughes is going to be available - 2 managers i would be happy with, but bilic is going to citeh and hughes sunderland!

I think there's a lot of wishful thinking going on! Nico will unfortunately leave in the summer especially as we look like we could be in big trouble already next season with a mass exodus taking place in the summer. Pessimistic, no. Realistic, yes!
    holdz
in many ways i do not think we would be in as much trouble as we think we 'might' if a mass exodus happened this summer you know, it might even be a good thing... i just said this elsewhere:
'sweep the decks clean and get in players/bring through those that do want to play for the shirt and the club again... overpaid, undertrying mercenaries are not what are needed next season - and we wont get that either in the main as i suspect several already have their minds on their next move, well if saturday is anything to go by... '

We need some new faces down here. But we also need our best player. Niko, to remain. He can inspire a team. we need others to come in yes, but I am sure Storrie has been thinking about that. Come on lads, lets look on the positive side of next season!

It seems logical that Niko will go, but I have a sneaky feeling he might stay. I think that's why I was one of the 3% don't knows.
