Deal or no deal? Joel Ward...
So, we have some 15 players out of contract in the summer (or seeing their loans with Pompey end) it is almost time to decide who deserves a new contract and who does not deserve the drippings from my nose, well ours noses!
I was going to look at them all together, but I think I will do them one at a time... Simple question, and as the bearded one would say, 'deal or no deal?'

He must be one of the longest serving youngsters that we have - but is he ever going to get near to the 1st team picture, that is the question?
Always regarded as 'highly rated' defender and by all accounts he has done well during his loan spell with Bournemouth, who it would also appear have enjoyed having him. He has already expressed a desire to return to them in the future, maybe next season, which if this happened would probably mean we opted against a new deal...
Deal or no deal? Deal.
To be honest with you I would not be at all surprised if we did release him in the summer, but it would be a shame to see another of our own produce slip away.
Lets just say the worse does happen and we had this 'fire sale' that has long been predicted, although we do not really know if he is premier league standard or not the benefit that he does have is the fact he has been playing regular 1st team football, which would have served him better than reserve football with us.
I say deal, but feel in all honesty this will not be the case as maybe heart is ruling head?

Deal - promising youngster and won't cost much at all to keep, so if he does turn out to not be good enough, then we won't have risked much on it. We may well need him in the future depending on what happens this summer.

Again, like quite a few of our youngsters, send him out to a championship club for a spell (say 6 months) and see how they do at that level. Then we'll be able to judge better...

how old is he? Arsenals youngsters all seem to be playing a very high standard of football, even at there young age. I know we can't necesserily hope to have youngsters that good... but...

Good point Carps.. Arsenal Chelsea and Manyoos 'kids' get loaned out to teams like.. well us... Ours go to Bournemouth and Yeovil and Dag & Red.. Still better that they are playing and let's not forget Beckham spent a season at Preston ! .. Ward has only good reports about him and if he needs more time to develop we will be better off holding onto him in the long run.. Deal him in I say.. even if he does spend next season with the Cherries
