It does not come as a surprise - well it would surprise me if it surprised anyone else, and as far as I am concerned it probably does not make much difference anyway, but it has been told to The Daily Mirror - on Monday I believe - by Paul Hart that all contract talks 'are on hold' until our league future is confirmed: 'I don't know how you can make a decision on players when you don't know if you are staying in the league. We have to stay up first.
'I'm here until the end of the season and dealing game to game. Whatever decisions need to be made won't be made now and may not necessarily be made by me.'
I still would not be in the least bit surprised if we got out the big brush and swept the floors clear - lets face it we need to cut costs and this gives us the ideal opportunity to start doing this... Whilst I would not be releasing the lot, in the main we would not be that badly troubled even if we did - apart from the diminishing numbers.
The Herminator is still one that I think we would benefit from offering another 12-months with maybe the option of another and Sean Davis posses the only quality that we really have in our current midfield, albeit - with respect - slightly limited, but his attitude is spot on but Wigan are the latest club showing an interest according to 'reports' today. 'If' they took pay cuts, although I had been against it, the benefits of keeping Sol Campbell and Kanu for next season seem to become more apparent as the weeks go on as next season is going to see quite a different side taking to the field, so at the right price this pair would certainly helped if used in the right way...
Of course it is not just players futures that are sorted out, Hart has his own future to be clarified - after constantly saying he was 'only here until the end of the season then he was going back to the youth side of things' he has left the door open and now seems pretty keen on the job: 'in a perverse way I've quite enjoyed my time in charge.
'It has probably rekindled something I didn't want to admit was there. I made a career decision to go back into youth development.'
Well this makes the decision of those that will decide to appoint him, as we almost certainly will, easier then - not that I think this would make this the right decision...

Hermie: offer him another contract - 2 years, he's worth it and he's the sort of player the clubs we are trying to emulate, keep and keep and keep.
Sean Davis: offer him a 3 year contract - I can't believe some people are still not keen on him.
Sol Campbell: won't stay - Pompey have been a miserable club this year and he doesn't need the hassle - also voted player, least likely to re-join Henry James at the Spuds.
Kanu: has been a good (ish) servant but the time has come. When you want to reduce costs, his fleeting appearances are a bit of a luxury.
Noe Pamarot: is not really going to move the club forward, so let him go.
This is the first year in two decades that I haven't looked forward to the transfer market 'opening' - have the Scum got anybody cheap worth buying, I wonder?.
