So, we have some 15 players out of contract in the summer (or seeing their loans with Pompey end) it is almost time to decide who deserves a new contract and who does not deserve the drippings from my nose, well ours noses!
I was going to look at them all together, but I think I will do them one at a time... Simple question, and as the bearded one would say, 'deal or no deal?'
Matt Ritchie
A guy that has huge potential, and by all accounts has what some might call a 'massive ego' to go with this - but to be fair from what I have seen he has the right to have this to a degree, but he keeps that ego in check. I think it is more of a case of supreme confidence as opposed to arrogance though to be honest.
Spending the season away from us on loan with Dagenham would have helped him develop even more and had it not been for the arrivals of the likes of Thomas, Traore and Belhadj I suspect, maybe out of necessity as anything else, he may well have formed part of our 1st team squad this season?
Deal or no deal? Deal.
For me the best chance that I feel we have of seeing a real 'local talent' come through. Without a shadow of a doubt I would not only give him a new deal I would have him in the 1st team squad, and not only that would be looking to play him a bit next season and see what he really can do.
Premier league football is a big step up from the league two level at which he has been playing on loan, but with respect to most at that level, for me he is too good for that and showed that he has quality. Again, and with respect, Havant and Waterloovile is some way below us but in last summers pre-season friendly he looked the part when he scored a hat-trick, and always was a threat and scoring in the reserves.
He would not be on a fortune so we really would be up a certain creek if we had to offload him as well to cut costs! Then again those at the club see a lot more of him than I do and maybe he does not have the potential I think he does?
These are my thoughts, what about yours? As always please share them below...

Not 'Richard Who' Penton 'Richard Duffy' that talented international full back we had on our books for 29 years who despite being a regular in the Swansea & Coventry sides (at our expense) could never get into our first team .. even when our 62nd choice full back was injured..
