Kaboul's a top man!

Younes Kaboul has the makings of a fantastic defender for Pompey and I have been very impressed with him this season when he has come in and done a job for us - ok when he was played in midfield early in his time with the club he looked poor, but as a defender he has looked really impressive.

The past few games with him at right back, which is not his position, have seen him very impressive and his goal last weekend was fantastic. Yep, I have no doubt that in him we have a fine player for the future who will be one of the first names on the team sheet next season.

But it is his 'selfless attitude' that has really impressed me now, so many throw their toys out of the pram when not playing but Kaboul has not only said that he 'expects' to be dropped this weekend he 'accepts' this as he wants what is best for the team, saying: 'no, I don't think I've done enough (to keep my place).

'Johnson and Davis are important for us and it is great for the team to have them back. The manager hasn't said anything yet but you need competition in a team for places and that's okay with me.'

I like the Frenchman more and more as I see him play, but this top class attitude makes me like him even more.

As it is, I think he would be extremely unlucky to be 'dropped' against Bolton this weekend as he has arguably been the best player over the course of the past 3 games he has played - for me right up there as the best player last weekend without a doubt.

However Glen Johnson is the best right back in the country at the moment and although he did not get at defenders enough for me last week Jermaine Pennant is a natural right winger so it does look like we do have to select them. Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin have started to look like their old partnership again, so there is no room for him in central defence either.

Thankfully Sean Davis is back this weekend, at least I believe he is back this weekend, so he has to come into midfield in place of Richard Hughes I guess, although this could be Hayden Mullins? I make no secret that I think Angelos Basinas should start in midfield, but that is not going to happen is it!

So, had, maybe even 'if' Davis missed out this weekend, and not 'just to accommodate him' I think I would have put Kaboul in a midfield role?

Yep, I know I have already said this is not his best position but let me explain.

He can at least run with the ball, pass it with a large degree of success, shot, tackle and score goals so he would have offered us more than the midfield we have had in the past couple of games!

Yep, I think Younes Kaboul is a top man, who is going to be a very, very good footballer for Pompey - it will be interesting to see what Paul Hart does, but if he does leave out the big man at least he will accept this and he will not go off in a sulk like others can, could or maybe even would...

Top bloke our Younes .. A good all round team player who must think that with Campbell (and even maybe Distin) going in the summer the No5 shirt will be his next season.. But in the meantime he'll do whatever is needed to help the team ..

He has a little bit of talent which was apparent even when he played for us but he is not good enough has he is error prone when put under preassure.

I think he has done a very good job. He came to us with all the Spurs and infact other fans saying that he is rubbish, but he is young and just needs to learn to focus. One for the future unles 'he' tries to take him back to Spurs!

Spurs have let so many players go who seem to thrive away from them. Younes Kaboul is just a youngster, he has had the benefit of training with the likes of Tony Adams, Sol and Sylvain, all he needs now is the experience which he will probably get next year and then - and then - and then - we'll sell 'im!

Disagree Yid. He made errors early on when started infrequently in a holding midfield role. But buckle under pressure? Like he did vs Milan..? Has come on leaps & bounds.

Younes is clearly going to be Sol's replacement, and what a replacement he'll be. I'm rapidly growing fonder of Kaboul every timeI see him, his progression is coming on in leaps and bounds, and he could be another massive player in the making.

Top bloke Janice - that's what he is called in my corner of the ground, in fact last week it had become Janet!! Has great talent and will make the France squad really soon.

Basinas apparently had a mare at Stoke (told to me by thos who were there and that is why is has not played since.

I knew a librarian called Eunice. So that's what I think of when I hear "Younes". But she didn't look anything like him. She had glasses.

Attitude is so important, and Younes has the right attitude and the aptitude as well. Top man indeed. That idea about playing him in midfield aint bad as well - we couldn't do much worse in midfield than we have been lately. But that would involve Hart taking a punt and doing something out of the ordinary, and he's not that kind of manager.

penton: no - I think he's great. I also think titus bramble is potentially very good - hence all the calls (by wigan fans) for a call up to the england squad.

love kaboul's attitude, as people say - and i did i guess - this counts for alot and can, and will, take him a long way in the game...
kaboul has already captained the french u21 side hasnt he, morroco want him at full level but he is holding out for the french side, and i feel he has the talent and ability to make it aswell you know!
isnt it funny how some spurs fans - most notibly people like 'Yid_from_India', who i see around the network claiming such things against other sides - always claim players are 'crap' or 'not good enough' when they leave london...granted some might also say the same about them when they played at white hart lane, but most have a far different opinion of them once they play for others and this opinion is mostly that they suddenly become 'no good'...

You only have to count how many players Spurs have bought back -at huge loss to themselves - to realise that Spurs don't actually know what they are talking about.

Kaboul was tremendous today v Bolton. Every time he went forward with the ball you felt something really good might happen.

fantastic. completly showed why he was wrong, and why, in actual fact, he deserved to play again.

Great attitude, still a young guy with lots to learn but very talented. He'll have a great of games next season when arguably we could have a complete new back 4!!!
