Kaboul's a top man!

Younes Kaboul has the makings of a fantastic defender for Pompey and I have been very impressed with him this season when he has come in and done a job for us - ok when he was played in midfield early in his time with the club he looked poor, but as a defender he has looked really impressive.

The past few games with him at right back, which is not his position, have seen him very impressive and his goal last weekend was fantastic. Yep, I have no doubt that in him we have a fine player for the future who will be one of the first names on the team sheet next season.

But it is his 'selfless attitude' that has really impressed me now, so many throw their toys out of the pram when not playing but Kaboul has not only said that he 'expects' to be dropped this weekend he 'accepts' this as he wants what is best for the team, saying: 'no, I don't think I've done enough (to keep my place).

'Johnson and Davis are important for us and it is great for the team to have them back. The manager hasn't said anything yet but you need competition in a team for places and that's okay with me.'

I like the Frenchman more and more as I see him play, but this top class attitude makes me like him even more.

As it is, I think he would be extremely unlucky to be 'dropped' against Bolton this weekend as he has arguably been the best player over the course of the past 3 games he has played - for me right up there as the best player last weekend without a doubt.

However Glen Johnson is the best right back in the country at the moment and although he did not get at defenders enough for me last week Jermaine Pennant is a natural right winger so it does look like we do have to select them. Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin have started to look like their old partnership again, so there is no room for him in central defence either.

Thankfully Sean Davis is back this weekend, at least I believe he is back this weekend, so he has to come into midfield in place of Richard Hughes I guess, although this could be Hayden Mullins? I make no secret that I think Angelos Basinas should start in midfield, but that is not going to happen is it!

So, had, maybe even 'if' Davis missed out this weekend, and not 'just to accommodate him' I think I would have put Kaboul in a midfield role?

Yep, I know I have already said this is not his best position but let me explain.

He can at least run with the ball, pass it with a large degree of success, shot, tackle and score goals so he would have offered us more than the midfield we have had in the past couple of games!

Yep, I think Younes Kaboul is a top man, who is going to be a very, very good footballer for Pompey - it will be interesting to see what Paul Hart does, but if he does leave out the big man at least he will accept this and he will not go off in a sulk like others can, could or maybe even would...
