We are skint yet we are buying Cisse!
The papers make you laugh really don't they?
I say this as we are, day after day, being mentioned as being so hard up for cash we are 'offloading' players or 'begging' for advances on payments to pay off our own debts - yet today it was 'claimed' that Djibril Cisse could make a £9m move to Pompey in the summer!
Apparently the French international, who has impressed on and off with his loan club Sunderland, wants to stay in England but Sunderland 'might' find it hard to be able to finance a permanent move for him...
Which begs the question how the hell are we going to be able to pay Marseille £9m for him if we do not have any money, and money that we do have is going to payoff debts!
Right, lets just say that we 'could afford him', would he be a bad addition to the squad?
He certainly blows hot and cold, when he is good he is very good, but when he is bad he is terrible - for me is a 'rich mans Benjani'. I say 'rich mans' as he is similar to him in many ways, probably minus the all out work rate, but always seems to move for decent money to big sides. Although that said 'if' we ever get the full amount we should, not that we will, the Zimbabwean would rank alongside the Frenchman in terms of most recent valuation.
So, would I sign him if we could?
I would have to say the money could be better spent elsewhere to be honest...
We have been 'linked' to him before so for me this is slack, some might say lazy, journalism here methinks!

One minute we are on the brink of collapse according to the press, the next we are going to spend £9m on an average player who is clearly not worth more then £4-6m. I really wish the press would make their minds up! Getting quite boring now.

Also, he might be a good partner for little Nugent & Giant Crouch, but not for £9m. Could probably get Ruud Van Niselrooy for that price!!

worst case scenario, we can't afford him. not a great loss really? :-: Optimistic scenario, we have 9million to spend all summer. would rather buy a midfielder. :-: Best case scenario, we have 9million to spend on a striker (takeover?). I'd rather bring benji back (assuming we lose crouchie) or just keep peter crouch.

We were meant to be 'signing Cisse' last summer for £6m, i think that story popped up about the same time last year. Personally (and no offense to SIR Benjani), but i'd prefer Cisse to be honest. Although both are Injury prone, Cisse is a fair bit younger & has more pace, just NOT for £9m (injury prone players aren't surely worth that? Are they?).

I think that Benji can play up there with Crouch, because he can create so many chances, and that is what Crouchie needs, opportunities. And yes, we do need a midfielder who can give us depth.

Benjani would only shatter memories if he came back - Isn't it about time we left his memories in the past and moved on ? .. Still doesn't make me want Cisse though especially for £9 million !! .. like we have the money anyway.. or maybe Rug is right we can pay with buttons next year !...

tend to agree, im not sure we would see the same benji if he came back so think it best this didnt happen... i see spurs, the fans on vital spurs anyway, have been talking about him and it seems a few wouldnt be 'surprised' to see jamie's dad make a move for him...

No way do we want Cisse here. It would be like having Baros all over again. More often than not he is a waste of space! Kepp the £9 mill and pay off some debts.

The papers make up lots of rubbish, and this is more of it - chip paper! if it was true, for me, I would welcome Cisse to the squad, but not for that sort of money. Carps is right, we need midfielders first.
