Deal or no deal? Armand Traore...

So, we have some 15 players out of contract in the summer (or seeing their loans with Pompey end) it is almost time to decide who deserves a new contract and who does not deserve the drippings from my nose, well ours noses!

I was going to look at them all together, but I think I will do them one at a time... Simple question, and as the bearded one would say, 'deal or no deal?'

Armand Traore - loan ends

Came in with a lot of promise, lived up to this in his early stages but had gone badly off the boil in recent months before injury struck to hamper his progress even more. His fight and desire, not to mention confidence, seems to have gone with him almost hitting rock bottom.

The double change in managers this season cannot have helped, 'he' made him a regular and he was still a mainstay in Tony Adams' thoughts, but another change of manager, and build-up of injuries has not helped at all.

I would still be happy enough if we could do a deal to keep him, a deal that could see cash come from Arsenal as well with Niko going the other way would still suit me - but I suspect that his desire to be here has gone, and he has repeatedly expressed his desire to have a long term future with Arsenal anyway.

Deal or no deal? No deal.

If we could buy him outright I do not think we would stump up the £5m or so for him, we simply cannot afford it. Well, even if we can Sacha will not be ploughing anymore money in so at least double that would need to be generated from selling others before we even gave this the most limited of thoughts I would think...

Like I say, if we could get him for Niko and cash I could still see a deal being done.

I do not think that Arsenal not letting him go comes into the equation much, as I think they would if a deal suited them. We do have to remember that they too, although not strapped for cash, still need to generate what they can.

These are my thoughts, what about yours? As always please share them below...

Don't think I want Niko to go the other way in this one - but that's because Niko = my hero! Personally, I would DEAL on this one if possible but it's unlikely. He's quick, he's skilful and he's impressed me whenever I've seen him play. Only bad thing is I can't tell him apart from Jerome Thomas for some reason, so get rid of Thomas and keep Traore!

I think if funds are limited then he is not a priority, Belhadj can play where he does. We desperately need creativity in midfield and another striker for next season (even before we lose anybody).

DEAL. As long as Tony Hart is not in charge, though.

With Gino on this one. traore is a great prospect and left footed players who can pass their full back and cross the ball are in short supply. DEAL

I don't think we have much of a chance, to be honest, but would glady have him stay so DEAL but knowing that there ain't no deal there.

By the way, Pompeii, is Tony Hart a typo or did you mean a) the recently deceased plasticine modeller off the telly (who would probably still be more attacking than PH) or b) the scary and biologically-impossible love child of TA and PH who would put out a 9-1 formation and then be unable to explain it without sounding like Eric Cantona's even less articulate moron brother. (gosh, I AM in a bad mood today...!)

He wil go back to the Arsenal a much better player with experience in abundance. Good move for us, but far too expensive to contemplate buying him.

I'd sign him in a heartbeat but i think he has a big future ahead of him at Arsenal. Had he been with another of the so called big teams then we may have had a chance but Arsenal tend to blood their youngsters more than the others so he will get his chance there.

I would love to keep him, but I don't think its on the cards. Wenger won't make the same mistake with him that The Special One made with Glen Johnson.

Couldn't we just send Djimi back to Arsenal & blame the 'Salt from the Sea' for aging him a fair bit (and making him a pretty crappy footballer)?

should we offer him a deal? yes. Should we pay over the odds? ...not even an option. He showed us when he came in that he does have a massive capability. he showed us that he is quick, can get back to defend, can beat a defender, and he linked up with belhadj like... magic! On the other hand, he isn;t our player, so from his perspective, he got a load of good football, then saw that actually he wasn;t getting anything out of it, and so couldn't really be bothered anymore. same as johnson really. However, as he showed against AC milan, he can tear apart players, even if he is just a one trick wonder. Is he good enough for arsenal though? no. is he even good enough for pompey at the moment? well, he can;t get into our first team. would I be pleased if he stayed? yes.

Would Armand even get into the Arsenal squad? I look at their team, and i see the likes of Nasri, Arshavin, Walcott & Ramsey (etc...) who would make the team well ahead of him. Should sign him ideally, and i hope he get's his form back if we somehow do sign him. Him & Belhadj were lethal together on so many occasions.

... he would also do very well i think with Pele. Belhadj, Armand, Pele, Kranky all on the pitch at the same time, i think that would be pretty damn good. (Pele should get some play time soon, he is one heck of a player!!)

No deal I would say. Belhadj can does the same as he can, only if we give more chance. We have seen that Belhadj is not a defender, but he is more of an advanced midfielder. If we have limited funds, we surely must go for a midfielder who can command the centre, thats what we need.

DEAL DEAL DEAL. He is not going to get in the first team back at Arsenal with Clichey miles ahead in ability. With Herman set to probably go this summer we could do with TRaore and Belhadj both being here, and perhaps playthem the other way round, as Traore is the less risky defender, and Belhadj has the better shot.

Don't think his heart is here. But it was wonderful watching him and Behadj playing down that left together. NO DEAL reluctantly...
